Bula! This Fijian greeting encompasses so much about the spirit of the South Pacific island nation and its culture of hospitality. Home to dense
rainforest, pristine beaches, coral reefs teeming with life, and famously warm and welcoming people, Fiji is a destination like no other.
Seacology, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on preserving island environments and cultures, has been working with villages in Fiji for more than two decades.
In September 2019, we invite you to join us for an exclusive travel experience to the island of Vanua Levu, where you can not only take in Fiji’s natural beauty and unique culture, but see up close how we’re partnering with communities. Guests will join one of our partner communities for the opening of our new project at Nabubu village, participate in traditional Fijian celebrations, and enjoy the natural splendor of Vanua Levu and its surrounding islands.

Accommodations: Koro Sun resort
Our lodging for the week will be provided by the Koro Sun Resort, situated on a private lagoon on the stunningly gorgeous coast of Vanua Levu. Your reservation includes meals at the resort’s two restaurants, masterfully prepared using locally sourced ingredients, access to the Koro Sun’s spa and golf course, and more. The family-friendly resort features a kids club, which includes a nanny service for children three years and younger and supervised recreational activities for youth up to age 12.
Our travel package offers two options for luxurious accommodations: a floating waterfront bure (adults-only) or a secluded garden bure.
Guests can explore the breathtaking coral reefs of the Namena Marine Reserve and Somosomo Straits. The Koro Sun Resort has a full-service dive shop offering three dives per day for certified divers, as well as a variety of certification courses. See korosunresort.com for more details.

Our expedition will visit two Seacology project sites, Nukubalavu and Nabubu. At both locations, Seacology has funded schools for local children and helped to protect gorgeous and ecologically important Fijian habitat.
Our work in picturesque Nukubalavu goes back to 2007, when we funded a building to serve as the village’s kindergarten and preschool in exchange for the establishment of a 25,600-acre marine reserve. Nine years later, the school and many other buildings in the village were heavily damaged by Cyclone Winston, the strongest storm ever recorded in the southern hemisphere. Upholding our commitment to our partnership with the village, Seacology funded the repair and expansion of the school in 2017. It reopened after serving as a temporary shelter for a family rendered homeless by the storm.

Seacology projects
Our latest project in Fiji is in the village of Nabubu, on the north coast of Vanua Levu. The community is protecting pristine rainforest and a marine area that includes part of Fiji’s Great Sea Reef, the third-longest barrier reef in the world. Seacology is funding the renovations of the school and teachers’ quarters and water storage tanks. Our expedition will attend a traditional ceremony hosted by village leaders.

Seacology protects ecosystems and helps communities on islands around the world by providing funds to villages for a
needed civic project — such as a new school or health clinic — in exchange for the conservation of a nearby forest or coral reef.
Since 1991, Seacology has launched more than 300 projects on islands in 60 countries, protecting more than 1.3 million acres
of marine and forest habitat.
