The target was unrealistic and as a result the output was not achieved

This could not be achieved. The Minister did not approve of the amendments to the Upgrading of the Land Tenure Rights Act, 1991 because of the complexity of using this Act to transfer land to African traditional communities, other communities and groups

system for speedy processing of the Labour Tenant Applications

The report was completed in December 2001. As a result of the Report and other Departments’ engagement with the IRSDP processes, there are now 29 projects in the nodal areas (more than the 3 originally planned)

A project plan was finalised in May 2001. The plan is being implemented. International day of the disabled was celebrated in December 2001 with all staff with disabilities.

A national employment equity committee

Appointment by the DG of a national employment equity manager and senior managers to serve on the national committee

Terms of reference to guide the work of committees

In August 2001 the DG appointed the Chief Director:Corporate Services as the National Employment Equity Manager for the Department. A national committee comprising of all other Chief Directors and Senior Managers from Transformation and HR was established. This committee held its first meeting in September 2001.This committee discussed and approved terms of reference in line with its mandate

Meetings with managers and staff to establish the type of committee that would best support the institutionalisation of transformation

Two provincial committees were established, in the Western Cape and Gauteng respectively. Arrangements to establish committees in three other provinces are at an advanced stage. The Gauteng and Western Cape provincial committees have also adopted terms of reference

Several events were celebrated at which the level of awareness on the three gender instruments (national,regional,in-ternational) was raised. Awareness campaigns also covered crucial topics on womens rights, gender-based violence and land rights
