What types of vehicles may I donate?
We accept cars, trucks, vans, boats on trailers, recreational vehicles (RV's), motorcycles, and
heavy equipment. All vehicles are towed so we can only accept vehicles with all of their tires.
How do you determine the value of my vehicle?
Once the vehicle has been picked up, it will be sold at auction. Auctions are held once a month,
on the first Saturday. Once the vehicle has been sold, Goodwill Central Texas will be notified of
the sale price and an acknowledgement letter for tax purposes will be mailed within 30 days.
How much can I deduct from my taxes for my vehicle donation?
Your tax deduction amount is dependent on the selling price of the vehicle. If your vehicle
donation sells for less than $500, you are eligible for a tax deduction of $499. If your vehicle
sells for $500 or more, your tax deduction amount is $500.00 or the sale price, whichever is
greater.

Do I have to provide my social security number?
If you would like to take a tax deduction for the sale amount of the vehicle donation, you must
provide your social security number (Public Law 108-357). If you do not wish to claim a tax
deduction of the full sale amount, you do not need to provide your social security number; in
this case, you may not claim more than $499 for the donation of your vehicle.
How long will it take to pick up my vehicle?
Vehicles are usually picked up within 48 hours. A Charitable Auto Recycling (CAR) representative will contact you within the first 48 hours to set a convenient pick-up time. If your vehicle donation is in danger of being towed or needs to be moved sooner, please alert the Goodwill employee at the time of your donation. In some cases, same-day service may be available, but not guaranteed.
Are there any costs or fees associated with my vehicle donation?
Donating your vehicle to Goodwill Central Texas is completely free. However, you may incur
costs prior to your donation to properly transfer the title of your vehicle if you do not currently
have a clear title on the vehicle. Please contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles at
1.888.DMV.GOTX for title questions.
