The Beginning
In 2002, the De Pere Historical Society’s photo collection was scanned – a total of just over 6,000 photos. Historian Committee formed later that year. First Photo Show held February 19, 2003 at
the De Pere Community Center 56 Participants at the first Show
Involving the Membership
From the beginning, the membership was invited to share photos and solve mysteries.
Getting Ready for the Show Tools
– Mainstream hardware & software– Screen, laptop, projector, microphones, scanner – Most auditoriums are equipped
Staff & Volunteers – Greeter – Sign in sheets, membership info– Scanner – Set up behind the audience– Driver – scrolls through the photos, etc.– MC – Gets the crowd involved– Hosts/Hostesses – Refreshments & Goodies
The Photo Show
The atmosphere is relaxed and audience participation is highly encouraged!
What We Do Advertise Encourage the audience to get involved in
identifying photos and sharing their photos. Keep the show moving. Vary the images - subject, time period. Keep the audience wanting more. Take the time to show the photos
contributed by the attendees.
Scanning during the Show
Volunteers collect information about the item(s) and donor(s), and scans the item for sharing at a show and adding to the Historical Society’s collection.
What People Bring to Share
Photographs of their families, reunions, class pictures, homes, cars, etc. Awards and Certificates Business related items; Letterhead,
Receipts, Advertising pieces, etc.

What We Do with Their Items We share the images at the Photo Show (save
original scan, and, if needed, adjust the image for better viewing.)
Add the image to our collection using the Museum Archive & Research System (MARS) – Today’s collection has over 18,000 photographs!

After scanning and adjusting this photo, it was the first time, 88-year old Lloyd Pratsch was able to see his grandmother’s face.

When We Don’t Know-
Bring printed copies of a photo to the Photo Show– Let attendees write the names of people
they know in the photo, on the photo Email an image to a group of “Historians”

After the Show
It is a reunion-like atmosphere, with free refreshments, cookies and delicious Seroogy’s chocolates.
