Chess Club – Looking Ahead to Next School Year
We are considering adding another session of Chess Club
for the next school year and would like to assess student
interest.
One session would be for beginners and one for students
who have previous chess experience. If your child (any
grade) would be interested in participating in chess club next
year, please email Chris Cooper
([email protected]) and indicate whether he
or she is a beginner or an experienced player.
This will not commit you to participate in the
fall; it is just for planning purposes.
Boys Tennis and Girls Soccer
Come join in the fun, and check out a game!
See page 2 for game dates and times.
SCA presented Mrs. Joy Parke, Director Volunteer
Services of the Children’s Hospital of The King’s

Dear Members of the Williams School Family:
As most of you know, I lost my mother Liz Kollmansperger to Ovarian Cancer in 2003. One year later,
my siblings and I embarked on a decade’s long journey in partnership with the community and Cancer
Care Foundation of Tidewater to honor my mother’s memory and to raise awareness, education and
support for patients battling cancer. Just Walk for Liz has been exactly the type of event my mother
would have loved – fun, grassroots and donut-friendly. So many of you have supported this event
since the beginning and some are just participating for the first time. To all of you I say a heartfelt
thank you.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Just Walk for Liz. I think my mother would have been very
touched and proud of our decade of support of cancer patients, right here in her own community. But
even she would admit that all good things must come to a natural end. Ten years feels like the natural
ending to this wonderful journey– so this will be our 10th and final walk.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary and final year of Just Walk for Liz, we would like to ask your
assistance in raising $20,000 in donations and sponsorships to honor my mom’s journey – and the
journey of so many that battle cancer each year. Reaching this goal would mean that we will have raised
$100,000 in 10 years to support local cancer patients. A very fitting tribute indeed.
As you know, in all the years we have held the event, we have never charged more than $25 for walk
registration. One simple way you can assist us in reaching our fundraising goal would be to voluntarily
“raise” the value of your walk registration to $30, $50 or $100. Additionally, any donation you would
like to make towards our goal – whether you are participating in the walk or not – is greatly
appreciated. Corporate sponsorships of the event this year would be wonderful as well. You can
register or donate at www.ccfot.org or call the Cancer Care Foundation office directly at 461-8488.
Thank you to the entire Williams School family for your steadfast support and outstanding enthusiasm for Just Walk for Liz. Let’s walk one more time and finish strong!
Best,
Liza Kollmansperger Needham
