About the local area

With Norwich city centre just 3 miles* away and natural aspects such as

open areas, plantations, woods and green fields locally there is a sense of

balance to Broadgate Park. Historically, the Anglo-Saxon name of Sprowston

means ‘the land belonging to Sprow’, but over time, with the spread of the city,

great change has taken place. Now Sprowston is an excellent town for family

living as education, shops or leisure activities, and other amenities, together

with access to the Norwich Ring Road, makes it a favourite for commuters

and travellers alike.

Sprowston has always been a good community for education, and local shops

offer a wide range of goods for everyday needs. There is a large Tesco and

a retail park, and further afield in Norwich there is everything you could imagine.

There are family-friendly public houses, such as the famous Blue Boar, and a

number of restaurants and recreational facilities including county wildlife sites,

ancient woodland, children’s parks and play areas, sports pitches, a recreation

ground, bowls club and golf courses, such as the Sprowston Manor Golf Club

in the grounds of the remarkable Sprowston Hall. With immediate access to

the city or countryside, river or coast there is always something to do and

somewhere to go.

Falcon, Sprowston and White Woman Lane Junior Schools together with Cecil

Gowing, Sparhawk and Sprowston Infant Schools provide the foundations of

education locally. Sprowston Community High School, with its own independent

sixth form, takes children between the ages of 11–18. Sprowston is also a

centre for adult education classes, and of course the city of Norwich provides

so much more.

Travel links

There are also outstanding links for travel around the region as Sprowston is

minutes away from the Norwich Ring Road. The city centre is 3 miles* away and

major routes such as the A11 and the A47 are within easy reach. The park and

ride just around the corner at the Wroxham roundabout is a favourite amongst

locals to avoid parking and congestion in the city centre. Norwich rail station,

3.5 miles* from Broadgate Park, has regular trains departing to Diss, Ipswich,

Chelmsford and London, and just off the ring road is Norwich International

Airport with flights to destinations further afield.
