    1.Turbo compressor KBBThe turbo compressor ex-ists of an axial turbine anda radial compressor. All theenergy recovered from theexhaust gases is utilized toprovide the energy neces-

    sary. The air lter is mount-ed directly to the turbocharger.

    4.Injection pumpEach cylinder has its ownindividual injection pumpand special shielded injec-

    tion pipes. The pumps aredriven from the camshaftby means of an intermedi-ate tappet and a well-sizedtappet-roller. The very shortinjection and combustionperiod together with thelow engine speed results ina low fuel consumption.

    3.Speed governorGoverning the speed iscontrolling the amount ofinjec ted fuel. This is doneby a rotation of the plungerliner by means of a rack,which is set by a linkageconnected to the speedgovernor.

    2.Security and controlsThe engine is equippedwith several control andsafety devices for continu-ous monitoring of the vi-tal operating parameterslike temperatures, pres-sures, speed, etc. The con-trol and sec urity systemis built to the rules of theinternational classicationsoc ieties.

    Inlet and outlet pipesBoth pipes are located onthe back side of the en-gine. This provides an easyaccess to the injectionpumps.

    Originally, the first version of theDZC type was developed in the eight-

    ies and has steadily been upgraded

    through the years. Today, this type

    became the standard choice for de-

    manding propulsion, tractionand gen-

    erating systems.

    The unique DZC- concept is known

    for its high reliabilityand efficientfuel

    consumption. Based on experience, a

    judic ious choice of piston, piston rings

    and cylinder liner, achieved goodrunning characteristic at low rates of

    wear, a very low lubricating oil con-

    sumption and a long working life.

    The DZC is suitable to run on heavy

    fuel oil up to 380 cSt, vegetable oils

    (PVO), animal grea ses, etc . In the dual

    fuel version, it is possible to burn natural

    gas, bio gas, propane, butane, etc.

    9.PistonThe trunk pis-ton is oil cooled(shaker effec t)and made inone piece ofnodular castiron. The incor-porated com-bustion roomprevents hot

    spots and causes an ideal com-bustion. Each piston has a set offour chromate piston rings: onetop ring, two compression ringsand one oil scraper ring. A lowpiston speed guarantees a low

    maintenance cost and a low oilconsumption.

    8.Cylinder linerThe cylinder liner is made from awear resistant centrifuga l cast

    iron, slightly alloyedwith chromiumand is plateau-honed in threephases. The linersare equipped withan incorporatedre ring (anti-borepolishing ring).

    e forged crankshaft of c hromium-molybdenum steel, with induction hardened running sur-ces, is conform all classication societies. This piece is completely balanced by counterweightsfor the 6DZC, 8 for the 8DZC). It is possible to c onnec t a secondary drive (up to 1800 HP) to the

    ankshaft at the front-end side of the engine.

    12.Starting arrangementThe standard starting system is with com-pressed air, acting direc tly on the c ylinders.An air bottle of 125l for a 6DZC and 200l for an8DZC is advised (for approx. six cold starts). Onspecial demand, the engine can be startedwith an electric or pneumatic starter motoracting on a starter gear mounted against theywheel.

    11.Flywheel & Flexible couplingAll ywheels are made of cast iron GG25. Themaximum circumferential speed is only 50 m/sec for a diameter of 950 mm. The low stiffnessof the coupling at idling speed prevents gearhammering and results in a stable behavior ofthe governor.

    7.CylinderheadThe double-decked, special al-loyed (cast iron) cylinder head isforeseen with two inlet and two

    o u t l e tvalves. Thisconcept isdesignedfor pre-cise andcont inu-

    ous duty.

    Camshafte camshaft is composed of indi-dual mono bloc stubs forged asne part (for each cylinder) andduction hardened on the camsnd bearing surface.

    6.Connecting rodThe connecting rods are forgedfrom high quality steel (42CrMo)and 100% controlled by magna-

    ux. The large end is horizontallysplit in order to limit deformationsand disassembling is possiblethrough the liners
