DUTCh FlORENCE BIENNAlE ARTISTS SIMON BORSTPROjECT COöRDINATOR DFBA PROjECT 2013
OrganisationMy work was selected for the 2009 Florence Biennale, which I was also involved in organising. This year I will function as coördinator for the project. 7 Dutch artists applied to join the DFBA. My goal is to bring artists together and create an exchange of ideas. By connecting with other artists in Holland, each participant will be thoroughly prepared for the Florence Biennale, for example by sharing their expenses. For the DFBA Project I handle the following: DFBA brochures, website, logistics and transportation, and the Dutch Preview.

Marianne Houtkamp is 25 year professional sculptor, art and sculptures were her passion all her life.By creating a perfect, respectful portrait, Marianne’s sculptures turn any person from all over the world into an individual star.In her work Marianne mirrors the human heart. By a particular facial expression or posture she captures the positive in a person’s character. And she is fascinated by everyday life in foreign cultures. Marianne has a special focus on women; she sees them as the power of Society, especially among nomadic folk.She is always capable of depicting the essence of a sculpture in its inimitable, moving and poignant way. The result of her great expressiveness is clear and unique. Yet each sculpture leaves room for the viewer’s own interpretation. This particular combination makes her bronze very popular.

Da 25 anni Marianne Houtkamp è una scultrice professionista. Da sempre l´arte e le sculture sono la sua passione. Con le sue opere, Mari-anne crea un ritratto perfetto e rispettoso, trasformando una persona proveniente da qualsiasi parte del mondo in una vera e propria stella individuale. Nelle sculture di Marianne si riflette il cuore umano. Con una particolare espressione del volto o un atteggiamento del corpo, l´artista cattura l´elemento positivo del carattere del soggetto.Marianne è sempre affascinata dalla vita quotidiana nelle diverse culture. La sua attenzione è rivolta nello specifico alle donne, soprattutto quelle appartenenti alle popolazioni nomadi, che, per lei, rappresentano la forza della società umana.L´artista è sempre in grado di raffigurare l´essenza di una scultura in un modo inimitabile, commovente e intenso. Sebbene il risultato della sua grande forza espressiva sia chiaro e unico nel suo genere, ciascuna scultura lascia spazio all´interpretazione personale del fruitore.È proprio questa combinazione particolare che rende i suoi bronzi molto popolari.

Reina Rozema was born in 1944 in the Dutch town of Zwolle. There she became a member of “het Palet”, a group of people who come together every week in order to sketch a model or a portrait. Here she met the painter Chris ten Bruggen Kate, who for three years taught her to work with oilpaint. At the Summer Academy in Salzburg she learned to paint on panel and to use glassy layers. She stood out in such a way, that her professor Arik Brauer asked her to be his assistant the next year.Since 1984 she has become a member of the Groningen Art Society “de Ploeg”. With them she had a large numbers of exhibitions.As an artist in her own right she exposed her work among other places in Zwolle, Amsterdam, Groningen, Vienna and Hamburg.For 10 years she focused on balls and marbles, but now she occupies herself with all kinds of subjects.Her website is: www.reinarozema.nl.

In questa città è divenuta membro del “ Palet”, un gruppo di persone che si riunisconoogni settimana per disegnare insieme da un modello o per fare dei ritratti. Durante una di queste riunioni ha conosciuto il pittore Chris tenBruggen Kate nel cui atelier ha poi imparato per 3 anni a dipingere con i colori ad olio. Nell’Accademia Estiva di Salisburgo ha in seguito raffinato la sua tecnica imparando a dipingere su pannelli e a lavorare con pigmentitrasparenti. Il suo lavoro era così speciale che il professore Arik Brauer le chiese di fargli da assistente durante le sue lezioni all’Accademia nell’anno seguente. Dal 1984 Reina Rozema è membro del circolo artistico di Groningen “De Ploeg”. Insieme agli altri membri del circolo ha esposto in molti luoghi differenti. Loes Kouwenhoven is born in 1947 in the beautiful old city Delft in the Netherlands. She studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and is art teacher for many years. She is inspired by the normal things of every day life. Her work is a homage to the unique andparticular of the commoness: a lady on her bike, a proud bird, a fisherman, sometimes expressed with a touch of humor.The style of Loes is naturalistic. By focussing on the essence of her subjects and leaving out details she comes to the expression of her forms and creates her expressive bronze statues. Her work is powerful and she is always aware of the interaction between form, space and light.
Loes Kouwenhoven è nata nel 1947 nella bella città vecchia di Delft nei Paesi Bassi. Ha studiato presso l’Accademia Reale di Belle Arti dell’Aia e da molti anni è insegnante di disegno e storia dell’arte. Lei si inspira alle cose normali della vita di ogni giorno. Il suo lavoro è un omaggio all’unicita’ e ‘particolarita’ dell’ordinario, talvolta con un tocco di umorismo: una signora sulla bicicletta, un ucello orgorlioso, dei pescatoriLo stile di Loes è naturalistico. Concentrandosi sull’essenza dei suoi soggetti e trascurando i dettagli, lei crea le sue particolari ed espressive statue in bronzo. Il suo lavoro è potente e lei è sempre consapevole dell’interazione tra forma, spazio e luce.

She is born in 1966 in a little village called Voorburg, in The Netherlands. Her works are colourfull and she uses the old master techniques combined with the modern techniques. Dutch artist Fransje Steins Bisschop is fascinated by her daily surroundings. She witnesses nature, people, and the intimate beauty within details. Their truth is captured, not by portraying people, flowers and natural scenes, but by entering and reflecting their hidden, fragile world. Sometimes she slowly moves from figurative to more abstract expression.Having an unusual sharp eye, she has found a fascinating way of revealing the pride and beauty within vulnerability. Thereby showing us her reality of nature. To see flowers perish, to witness their transience moves her. In her view it underlines the very essence of life within. It is with genuine curiosity that she explores the true nature of beings. Revealing to us what they had not necessarily shared with us yet. Lovingly showing us what defines them into who they truly are. “ If I look with an unbiased mind, the flower or person will eventually show me his or her reality. I just have to put myself at their service....”
L’ artista olandese Fransje Steins Bisschop sente ogni il fascino di tutto ciò che quotidi-anamente la circonda. Osserva la natura, le persone e la loro intima bellezza in tutti i suoi minimi aspetti. Sa catturare la verità in loro racchiusa, verità che lei non esprime con ritratti di persone, fiori o scenari della natura, ma entrando nel mondo nascosto e fragile, che ricompare poi nel suo lavoro. Talvolta l’artista si sposta lentamente dall’espressione figurativa a quella più astratta. Poiché ha un occhio fuori dal comune, ha trovato un modoaffascinante di rivelare orgoglio e bellezza in tutta la loro vulnerabilità, mostrandoci così ciò che è per lei la realtà della natura. Si commuove nel vedere dei fiori deteriorarsi e os-servando la loro la fugacità. Ciò che sottolinea a suo modo di vedere, la vera essenza della vita. È con genuina curiosità che lei esplora la vera natura degli esseri. Rivelandoci così ciò che questi forse ancora non avevano condiviso con noi. Mostrandoci con amore ciò che fa di loro quel che essi veramente sono.

“The light and the shadow”Is how I describe my pencil on paper drawings. I ty to make the most of those characteristics in my images. With my background in painting and the graphic arts(I was trained as an Art teacher in my native Russia)My drawings are a sharp sense oflines and balance, as well as a softer variety of textures that bring a gentle,luscious element to the works in a juxtaposition that achieves a delightful harmony.There is a feeling of unity in my images, an internal logic that holds firm despite contrasts in scale,perspective and subject material. That unity stems from the mix of reality and dream that is a central part of my intent.I like to use organic forms and let my fantasies go. The result is images that recast the world as an interior landscape which reflects my emotions. As soon as my pencil is on the paper, my feelings are projected on my drawings . The result is the image that’s on the paper.”
“La luce e l’ombra” è come ho descritto la mia matita su disegni su carta. Cerco di fare la maggior parte di tali caratteristiche nelle mie im-magini. Con il mio background in pittura e le arti grafiche (sono stato addestrato da un maestro d’arte nella mia nativa Russia) I miei disegni sono un forte senso di linee e l’equilibrio, così come una varietà di texture morbida che portare un dolce, elemento sensuale al opere in una giustapposizione che raggiunge un delizioso harmony.There è un sentimento di unità nelle mie immagini, una logica interna che tiene in piedi nonostante contrasti di scala, prospettiva e oggetto materiale. Questa unità deriva dal mix di realtà e sogno, che è una parte centrale del mio intento. Mi piace usare le forme organiche e lasciare che le mie fantasie vanno. Il risultato sono immagini che rifuso il mondo come un paesaggio interiore che riflette le mie emozioni. Non appena la mia matita è sulla carta, i miei sentimenti sono proiettate sui miei disegni. Il risultato è l’immagine che è sulla carta. “

Art and experience play an important role in my life. In my work I get inspired by everyday life: everything around me, events, memories, shape, color, emotions and judgments of people. Hidden reality has my special interest. During the process, the use of material or size, doesn’t limit my expression, that may be as well 3D as 2D shape. Often I use clay in combination with steel, but I make regular trips to other materials. My work has been exhibited in various places in the Netherlands such as Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Zwolle.
l’Arte e l’esperienza della vita giocono in me un ruolo importante, dandomi quotidianamente ispirazione, facendo che tutto intorno a me, eventi, ricordi, forme, colore, emozioni e giudizi di persone hanno un particolare interesse. Durante il processo del mio lavoro artistico l’uso dei materiali e dimensioni non limita la mia espressione; esso puo’essere sia tridimensionale che bidimensionale. Spesso uso argilla in combinazione con l’acciaio ed esperimento regolarmente vari materiali..Ho esposto il mio lavoro in diversi luoghi in Olanda come Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam e Zwolle.
