Welcome to Westhope’s programme of courses for April to September 2017.

We have included more than 100 wonderful short courses to inspire you. There are boundless opportunities to develop existing interests or to try something new.

Our City & Guilds course programme is hugely popular and we are extending this to include basketry, patchwork and machine embroidery on weekdays. We have some bursaries available to help with course fees; please contact us for details.

Our fees include a light lunch, refreshments and materials costs (unless otherwise stated) and most courses are suitable for beginners. We are pleased to offer a generous loyalty reward scheme.

Patchwork with Sandra Wiggins

Each qualification comprises craft, design and research units. Students will develop skills and techniques to design and create

individual and unique pieces of work.There are no entry requirements and no previous

experience is necessary for level 2 courses. Courses start in October and there will be an exhibition of students’ work in

July 2018. Course fees may be paid in full in advance or in monthly

instalments by standing order. A non-refundable deposit is required on booking to secure a place.

We can offer some accommodation to students who wish to stay in college during their course.

Basic sewing machine knowledge is required.

An introduction to the technique of enamelling on sterling and fine silver. Learn how to prepare metal, grind and wet lay enamel, as well as how to shape and use cloisonné wires. Learn how to create your very own mosaic panel. You will be shown how to apply tesserae and the techniques of using mosaic nippers, adhesives and grouts. You will be delighted with the results and take home an impressive A4 sized mosaic. Both workshops are suitable for anyone from beginners to advanced. Students who wish to learn more advanced techniques can also attend the workshop on 17th June.

This half day workshop is an introduction to the simple but effective technique known as kiln carving. Learn how to create relief patterns and texture adding depth to your work. You will create a pattern or design in fibre paper and then be shown how to use glass and ceramic moulds to create one clear glass and one coloured glass bowl. Fee policyIf you cancel your booking within six weeks of the course start date, we regret that fees paid will not be refunded unless the course was full and your place can be re-sold. Fees already paid will automatically be refunded in full, or (if preferred) a transfer of fees to another course will be arranged, in the following cases:• If a course is cancelled by us before the start of the course.• If a course has been rescheduled to a different time to that which was advertised.• If the stated course aims have been changed significantly.

We can help you• A course information sheet will be sent to you upon payment of the full fee and is

available upon request prior to enrolment. The information sheet will contain details of any items which you should bring with you to the course.

• We welcome participation from learners with disabilities. We have a range of assistive technology and wheelchair access is available to most parts of the College. Please call us to discuss any particular additional needs before your course.

• We can cater for most special dietary requirements; please notify us prior to the start of the course.

Any photographs taken of students and their work are the property of Westhope College and may be used by the college for marketing purposes. Please let us know if you would prefer not to be photographed.

Day Courses: Tuition, tea/coffee, lunch and materials, unless otherwise specified. For non-residential courses we can provide details of B&B accommodation.

Payment detailsPayment may be made by card or by cheque payable to Westhope Charity. Day Courses: The course fee must be paid in full, on booking, to secure a place.No reservations of places can be taken.Residential Courses: There are two stages to a residential course:• Payment of a non-refundable deposit

of £50 at time of booking.• Payment of the balance one month

before the course starts. If a balance is not received, we reserve the right to offer that place to another applicant.
