WINRidge N River - “I have fished & hunted since I was 5 years old.”Some say that fishing and shooting is in the blood – this is definitely true of Ian Brown, co-owner of Ridge N River in Picturesque Wanaka. The son of local guide Bill, Ian says, “I remember deer hunting expeditions on horseback with father at the head of Lake Ohau and fly fishing in the same era.” Having spent every available moment through school year, varsity and working life, fishing and hunting, Ian sold his farm and moved to Wanaka about ten years ago, bought Wanaka Marine and from it spawned Ridge N River, Proshops newest fishing and shooting supply store. Owners Ian and Lyn Brown focus on ‘locals’, Ian says “where we live is a haven for fishing and shooting and
getting young guys into the outdoors with necessary skills, knowledge and equipment is so important”. Ian says that Ridge N River offer advice and products based upon experience, not tourist focused as many others are in the area. You can experience the outdoors with Ian too: he has access to private and DOC land and takes customers out fishing and shooting as a guide, having adopted some of his father’s clients and taken on new ones. Ian’s guiding company, a no frills operation, is called “Ruffit Hunting”. Rough and ready it might be, but you are assured of a great and passionate experience when you call into Ridge N River in Wanaka.

right hand man Billy Wilcox really know their product too. Dave is an accomplished trout fishing guide and is a keen deerstalker and sea fisherman too. Billy is an “all rounder” and participates in racquet sports, volleyball, duck shooting and fishing.
