UTA Special Olympics Track Meet
Douglas Nyandika (football) and Brooke Smith (softball) were ready to get started. The two of them helped at the softball toss at the beginning of the afternoon. Douglas spent most of the day running results upstairs.
The basketball girls cheered on athletes as they crossed the finish line. They also helped with running results upstairs throughout the day.
There was a lot of cheering for the Special Olympics athletes.
A lot of cheering…
Walking the athletes In order to get the athletes to the start line, two volunteers would walk with them. Here, Mandy Ramirez (volleyball) and Kayla Collins (track) walk with one of the competitors before her race.
The soccer girls walked this Special Olympics athlete to the starting line before his race. The ladies also walked athletes from the finishing area to the awards area where the athletes got medals as they stood on podiums.
A chance to talkDouglas and Emily White (tennis) took the opportunity to talk with an athlete. There were lots of chances for conversations while escorting the competitors.
Making friends
The track girls enjoyed getting to know these guys while they waited for the next race to begin.
