Analysis
• Notable efforts to create reliable and efficient transport systems within the constraints of Brazilian social and economic reality;
• Concerns and actions in order to use financial resources in responsible and transparent manner;
• In some cities, BRT may lead to cost reduction and creation of high quality transport systems;
• Basic elements of BRT systems have been assimilated by all surveyed cities:
• Some cities have projects in advanced stage of development (conception, implementation and future prospects); and
• Others have demonstrated their relative incipience in adopting BRT concepts.
![Page 45: BRT studies in Brazil (2011)](https://reader034.vdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052401/55d30b86bb61eb2f468b4662/html5/thumbnails/45.jpg)
45
Conclusions
• Catalogue of the BRT experiences in 12 Brazilian cities:• Fast transformation to constitute efficient systems;
• BRT studies go beyond meeting the transport needs associated to the World Cup (2014) and the Olympic Games (2016);
• Many challenges in achieving the potential of BRT systems:• creation/consolidation of supporting structures in order
to achieve financial and institutional sustainability;• detailing of projects would contribute to improving
constructive and operational performance; • development of environmental and business plans; and• Strengthening BRT brand.
