ESTRELLA DAMM PRIMAVERA SOUND 2007

The new edition of Estrella Damm Primavera Sound will take place on May 31, June 1 and 2. One more year

the Festival which is well known for being eminently urban, converges with names that are essentials to under-

stand the independent music of the last thirty years. Once more, located in “Parc del Forum”, the festival pre-

sents a line up with relevant artists such as the return of The Smashing Pumpkins to the stages, the exclusive

show for Spain in 2007 of The White Stripes releasing their new album, or Patti Smith’s last tour. In addition,

the presentation of the brilliant album of the Americans Wilco, the first performance in Spain of Modest Mouse

(with Johnny Marr from The Smiths) or Sonic Youth playing Daydream Nation, one of their masterpieces.

These are some of the attractions of the festival.

This is an event with no stylistic boundaries, where you will be able to find electronic of all kind (Diplo, Girl

Talk, Erol Alkan, Kid Koala, Hell), quality pop (Architecture In Helsinki, Herman Düne, The Apples In Stereo),

post metal (Isis, Pelican), classic pop - rock (Billy Bragg, Jonathan Richman, Buzzcocks, Robyn Hithcock), folk

(Kimya Dawson, Death Vessel, Brightblack Morning Light) new british bands (The Long Blondes, Maxïmo

Park, The Rakes) experimental (Battles, Alexander Tucker) and some of the best Spanish bands (Los Planetas,

Sr. Chinarro, Ginferno, Standstill).

A line up with more than 100 groups will perform for three days and in pre and post festival’s parties.

Berlin invites you to a very special event: celebrating the 12th edition of the “Carnival Of

Cultures” from the 25th to the 28th May 2007, it will indulge you with a lively four-day street

festival, a children’s carnival (26th

May), a parade (27th

May) and various parties..

This carnival is a reflection of Berlin’s cultural diversity as one of the most vibrant and con-

stantly changing metropolis in Europe. Berlin is a city with a large international population.

Among the 3.4 million inhabitants of the German capital 450.000 do not have the German

citizen-ship. Many more have a mixed ethnic background. For 2007, 800.000 visitors are

expected.

The idea of a carnival which presents the cultural and ethnic diversity of Berlin was devel-

oped in 1995, i.e. at a time when – as a consequence to the political and economic changes

since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the unification of the two German states – a lot of social,

economic and cultural changes happened. Due to these changes, to the economic decline

of Berlin and the different economic levels and social and cultural experiences of people in

East and West Berlin, social conflicts became more evident and even increased. This state

of change resulted, among other things, in a biased and prejudiced view on immigration,

which was reflected in the public discussion. At the same period of time, Berlin attracted a

growing number of artists from all over the world and a new cultural off-scene developed,

which added to the cultural richness of Berlin. Berlin developed into one of Europe's music

centres with a focus on different styles of electronically generated music.

On the 27th

May more than 100 bands and over 4000 paraders from 70 countries will take

part in a colourful street-parade procession in Kreuzberg, Berlin’s most international district.

International food, drinks, arts and crafts will be on sale at 380 stalls. Various youth and mi-

nority organizations as well as political initiatives will inform about their work.

Parties and festivals, organized by partners of WdK, will carry on the carnival’s atmosphere: 8 th

International Festival of Capoeira (25th to 28 th May, www.capitaes-de-areia.com), Fiesta Latina

(26th to 27th May, www.junction-bar.de), 8 th International Festival of Capoeira (25th to 28 th May,

www.capitaes-de-areia.com), Live-Reggae-Festival (26th May, www.orgume-events.com), Glow

Carnival Special (27th May, at Lido, Cuvrystr.7)

Multicoloured T-Shirts with 4 confessions for those dedicated to Carnival and the Maxi-Single

“Karneval Hits” with 4 songs are available during the Carnival street festival and on www.karneval-

berlin.de, www.piranha.de.

For more information you can check: www.karneval-berlin.de, you can also contact them directly if

you have any special enquiries: infoarneval-berlin.de or Tel: 0049 3060977022.

We hope you enjoy yourself being part of this lively happening in the streets of Berlin.

Berlin is easily reachable with any cheap airline company.

Valencia can be a city of clichés: the light,

the moon, the gun-powder, the paella, the

flowers, the fallas,...they are keys which

attempt to explain what words cannot tell.

It´s necessary to visit and get to know

Valencia to verufy that centenary tradi-

tions live together with modernity. To the

innumerable attractions which the city has

had for years, now there is a series of

showy infrastructures such as the Ciudad

de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and

Sciences) and the Museo Príncipe Felipe

which, as they are located in this environ

ment, are linked to culture. Valencia has

put the icing on the cake, although it will

not have a rest and will go on decorating

its cucculent presenttion.

Prague, the capital city of the Czech Repu-
