Introduction•Schools have been taking a hit in recent years.

•About every state in the United States has been affected by budget cuts in some way or another.

•These cuts come in the form of reducing benefits to employees and cutting classes from the curriculum.

Where it beganIn 2006, President Bush ended

42 education programs and reduced the budget of four other programs by $4.279 billion.

These programs are not just for educational purposes, but some include programs for the disabled and handicapped. As well as culturally based programs.

Cuts increased In California, more than $4

billion was proposed to be cut from the schools budgets.

“It would decimate education as it exists right now,” - Paul Chatman, a school board member from Ocean View, Calif.

School districts around the country are trying to persuade their communities to vote for a higher tax on school funding.

Impact on SchoolsBecause of these cuts, many programs are

being cut as well. Programs, such as reading or fine arts, are

also being cut due to budget restrictions.

Impact on StudentsPrograms designed to help students succeed in life

are now being cut. Students are not getting the resources they need or

the help they deserve. Class sizes will be increased and teaching positions

will be cut back.

What is being done?Teachers and administrators are trying to

manage through these tough times.Communities are trying to raise funding for

public schools through taxes.In 2009, $100 billion of the $787 billion

stimulus package went straight to helping education.

In the end….Six months after the stimulus package,

education all throughout the country is still in a crisis.

Many are relating this to another Great Depression, due to the amount of estimated layoffs that could occur.

Class sizes are increasing as resources are depleting.

Many support another economic stimulus, but do not want to keep borrowing from foreign countries.
