The Mission of the District Attorney’s Office

The District Attorney’s Office shall ensure, protect and promote public safety in Alameda County with the highest standards of excellence, professionalism and ethical integrity.

Mandated Services

The District Attorney’s Office is mandated by law to:

• Review and prosecute criminal cases in both the adult and

juvenile justice systems;

• Protect consumers, workers, and the environment, including enforcement through civil and criminal actions;

• Preserve and protect public integrity;

• Uphold the rights of victims of crime; and

• Support and protect victims of and witnesses to crime.

Serving Victims of Crime

The DA Restitution Unit ensures that appropriate restitution is ordered to the victim as part of the defendant’s sentence. In 2014, the DA Restitution Unit helped secure 1,054 restitution orders totaling $13,269,602. The DA staffs two post-conviction restitution courts to assist victims with collection of court-ordered restitution. In 2014, Deputy DAs made more than 4,000 appearances in Restitution Court on behalf of crime victims.

The DA Civil Division includes 22 Attorneys, 27 Inspectors, 6 Support Staff, 3 Forensic Accountants and 2 Victim Advocates.

Awards & Achievements

The Alameda County Family Justice Center was selected as only 1 of only 20 programs in the nation exemplifying the success of the Violence Against Women Act, passed 21 years ago. The Director of the United States Department of Justice - Office of Violence Against Women and her top staff visited the ACFJC identifying the ACFJC as a NATIONAL MODEL for collaboration and comprehensive service delivery while incorporating prevention programs

Awards & Achievements

The California Victim Compensation Program (CalVCP) honored the Alameda County District Attorney's Office’s commitment and dedication to serving victims of crime, and also recognized the Office's historic 50 year partnership with CalVCP. The Alameda County DA’s Office is the first recipient of this award in the State.

Last week, we received the Community Justice Award from Children of Incarcerated Parents & Community Works.

The award was for our commitment to reducing youth incarceration rates and the courage to embrace restorative justice as a viable alternative.

Conclusion

The District Attorney’s Office is proud to serve the citizens of Alameda County. Our Staff serves on more than 150 Community Boards and Commissions. Staff is involved in extra curricular activities beyond their “day job” and work as many hours as it takes to serve justice.

We will continue pioneering innovative programs that benefit our community.
