In order to connue with the improvement plan the elders felt like it was important to update the church about our improvement plans for the building and grounds. In 2013 we walked over the property and reviewed the needs of our facilies and our ministry needs. We then divided the im- provement projects into three categories. Listed below are the projects: Building Maintenance Projects: Stabilize the foundaon on the main building (Completed 2013). Finish all unfinished projects around the church building. Add mulch to the playground for safety. Refinish the front doors of the main building. Replace all six of the heang and cooling units in the main building (2 are replaced). Remodeling Projects: Divide the old preschool classroom into two adult classrooms (in progress). Renovate the library (Completed). Remodel the Blue Room Install a fence around the playground for safety. Remodel the large kitchen. Replace the guers and repaint fascia on the main building. Major Capital Projects: Replace our current sign with a digital marquee and signage (in progress). Install sound dampening material in the gym. Repair/resurface the south parking lot. Remodel the auditorium to include sound panels and sound equipment. How is this all going to work? There are three ways of financing these improvements. The first way is to place a project in our budget and use general funds to do the work. This method will be used on smaller projects included in the building mainte- nance area. The second way is to build up our savings and then use money from our savings to finance a project. The third method is to have a capital campaign to raise the funds needed for a project (such as the sign project currently under way) and when the funds are raised the project will be completed. I hope this gives everyone some insight into our plan for keeping our facilies in good shape and ready to meet the ministry needs of the church family. If you have any quesons, please contact one of the elders or the church office.

summer events Tired of all the snow? Are you as ready for flip-flop weather as we are? GREAT! Now that you are thinking about summer, here

are some things we’re working on!

The dates for Camp Sooner are Middler (2nd-3rd graders) July 6th-8th, and Day Camp (k-1st graders) June 14th.

VBS is an extremely fun week spent with kids from all over learning about Christ. To be able to have VBS it takes many

people, especially ones to be the directors/coordinators. This is where you come in. We are looking for someone to help direct/

coordinate VBS with Katelyn this year. It is possible that if we don’t get anyone to help we may be forced to cancel VBS for this

year. So if you are willing and/or interested please come talk to Katelyn Craft!

Are you a follower of Jesus?

It seems like an easy question to answer. But as we have

studied at Uprising in the last few months, it may not be all

that simple.

If you’d say you’re a follower of Jesus because “I go to

church”, or “I’ve been baptized”, or “I’m a Christian”, you

may not be a follower after all. You may be a fan.

A fan is an enthusiastic admirer of Jesus. Someone who

celebrates him, but doesn’t want him interfering with your

life. We spent five weeks really unpacking this idea, and it’s

time to choose.

Will you be a fan, or will you make the commitment to

surrender everything to Christ as your kurios (Master)? Will you abandon your plans for your future, the trappings of comfort

and possessions, even your own identity in order to allow Jesus to mold you and use you here and now?

If your ready to go beyond fandom and become a follower, find a WHYministry Guide and talk to them about it. Let them help

you figure out how to take the next steps, including talking to your family about your commitment. Followers don’t follow

Jesus alone. We walk together with other followers, so don’t try to make this transition on your own. Stealing a line from

Home Depot, “You can do it; we can help.”

not a fan

As we’re writing this, we’re just days away from SuperStart!

We know it’s going to be great, and we hope you have tons of

fun and learned a lot about how you are Treasured by God.

We’ve got more awesome stuff coming soon:

What the heck is that thing?!?!

It’s called a QR code, and it’s a part

of our next big event.

Everybody knows that Easter is all

about Jesus’ resurrection. But there’s

lots of other cool stuff that we think

of when we think of Easter, too. Like Easter egg hunts!

This year, we’re having our own Easter egg hunt, but we

won’t be hunting for little plastic eggs. We’ll be hunting for

those QR codes! And we won’t be hunting around the church

building. We’ll be hunting all over Lawton!

Those codes can be scanned by an app on your phone and

they’ll connect you to all kinds of cool stuff. At our Digital

Easter Egg Hunt, we’ll split into teams and use those QR

codes to get instructions on where to find the next “egg” and

what we have to do to collect it.

Start thinking about who you want on your team, invite as

many friends as you can, and plan to have an awesome time

with us on Saturday, April 19.

In the mean time, try scanning the QR above and see what

you find!

In the Gospel of Matthew an interesting statement is made concerning Jesus. After Jesus taught one of his greatest

lessons the people said this about him. “When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his

teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.” (Matthew 7:28-29)

What brought them to this conclusion? What was so authoritative about Jesus’ teaching and not the teaching of the

Jewish officials? Apparently Jesus taught with a lot of passion the other teachers lacked. He not only spoke what was

true, but he also wanted his listeners to act on what they heard. If you remember the closing to the Sermon on the

Mount you will recall Jesus telling us to not only listen to the words but to put them into practice. Do you remember

the wise and foolish builder?

When Jesus spoke he expected a response. He was there as an information dispenser. I think the same is true today.

When we hear God’s Word spoken or we read it, God expects a response. Each Sunday when I speak, I offer every-

one an opportunity to respond to what has been said. Sometimes it is with a prayer; sometimes there is something to

do. But each Sunday I expect a response and so does God.

I feel this is important because the practical teaching of God’s Word moves people to action. Our relationship with

Christ is built upon action. We show our love to Him through our obedience to him. And that will require us to act

differently than the world around us.

I share this with you because I want your relationship with Jesus to grow deeper and wider as we go through the His

Story series. It is a great time for you to not only deepen your understanding of who Jesus is, but to also mature in

your relationship with Him. This maturing process requires you to act on what you learn. So each week I will have

some sort of practical next step for you to take in your walk with Jesus.

Please take this opportunity to invite your friends and enemies to come and hear about Jesus.

See ya Sunday, Dave

Ben and Sara Wellsand

Ben and Sara began their adventure several years ago when they felt the call to take the Good News to an area of the world in which it was not popular. Because of where they are serving, a lot will not be disclosed about their work. But there are some positive things that can be said. While working in the area, they have been able to make a lot of great contacts through the English as a second lan-guage classes they are teaching. They have found the people very open to learning English and through the classes they are able to build relationships with the local population of people. Sara is not only a busy mother; she is very involved in the pregnancy resource center in the community in which they live. Many couples opt for an abortion when they discover their baby is a girl instead of a boy. The pregnancy resource center is working with the mothers to encourage them to carry their babies to birth and to value each child given to them. Ben has been working on his Master’s in ministry while working overseas. He has almost completed the program. They plan to continue working in their current location as long as He allows them to remain. Please pray that He will continue to open doors of opportunity for Ben and Sara to faithfully reach out to the world around them with the Good News. Hope is a universal desire for all people, everywhere.
