Hampton Bays Union Free School District

Demographics Hampton Bays is located on the southern east end of Long Island. We have a district student population of

about 2147 students. Our ELL population is about 437 students (21%). We have three schools in our

district, Elementary (K-4), Middle (5-8), and High (9-12). Our percentage of ELLs has been steadily rising

even as overall enrollment has started to slightly decline. Today’s presentation will focus on the ELL

planning and programming in our High School.

Please reference your handouts for a copy of our student population data.

Unique Program Component: We have a

bilingual social worker that joined our staff last year

and has been able to meet the socio/emotional

needs of our students such as with Student 2. This

support is an integral part of our program as we

have many students that arrive with life-altering

experiences that affect their success in school and

daily life.

Unique Program Component: Hybrid schedule with teachers

that are TESOL/Special Ed certified. This student is dual-enrolled in

the day and alternative school program due to multiple course

failures. Our school district has also provided opportunities for our

Special Education teachers to take graduate coursework that will

result in TESOL certification to meet our students’ needs.
