High School Founder’s Day Celebration – Thursday 27 February 2020
Thanks to all our high school students and teachers, who made our celebration of Rudolf Steiner’s birthday such a
success! Special mention must of course go to Coach Tulani who organised a fun-filled volleyball tournament for
our students to take part in. The day started with a special assembly, where teacher Lorna Smith spoke of her own
life and heritage and the impact Waldorf education has had on her. Then it was time for the volleyball, with both
enthusiastic playing and cheerleading! Although competition was not the driving force, it must be mentioned that
Class 9’s won because of the number of points they scored (they will be cross if this is not acknowledged!!).
Despite the wind, a lovely picnic under the trees was shared by all, as can be seen in the photographs taken by
class 11 student Vivek Rendall.
Rudolf Steiner would have been proud to see these young, willing high school students spending a windy day out-
doors, involved in physical activity and community-building. It was a great honouring of our founder.
Dear Boys and Girls, The day has finally arrived!! Bring your moms and dads to school on Saturday 07th March as we will all be joining hands on the very ex-citing project of building our brand new sports field together as a community!
We will meet you at the coral tree with your spades at 08h00 sharp and we invite your family to donate and plant 2 square metres of grass (details to follow). Thereafter we will join in celebration around the fire and enjoy a bring and braai together to celebrate this first tangible step towards implementation of our Master Plan.
We hope you are as excited as we are and look forward to seeing you there! Yours in Sport, Ray Brink, Sugan Naidoo, Samantha Williams, Simthembile Xeketwana, Ja-nine Schacherl, Mornay Fortuin, David Haigh, Michelle Basson, Liezl van der Merwe and all the Stellenbosch Waldorf School Teachers and Staff
Stellenbosch Waldorf School is proud to introduce our 2020 Matrics to the community. Today you can read about another student…
Mika Du Preez
My name is Mika du Preez. I've known Waldorf since Kindergarten but moved around a lot, until eventually settling at Stellenbosch Wal-dorf School in Class 4.
At the essence of my soul, the bright shining power of the sun can be found, radiating the positive energy with which I enthusiastically face every challenge that comes my way every single day. I am passionate about many things, but art, music and writing take the cake. I play the accordion, guitar and piano, I love writing poems and stories.
After school, my quest is to study at the Centre for Creative Educa-tion to become a Waldorf teacher! Eurythmy is also a big part of my journey into the future. I also wish to study overseas, my path is var-ied but my mission is clear.
I want to become a Waldorf teacher because I believe in the magic power of Waldorf education. I want to start in Kindergarten and work my way up, so I can experience every curricular tier of growth and experi-ence in the Waldorf system. I yearn to bestow others with the same energy I was given and bring magic into the world.
Class 3 Camp
The class three’s had their first camp out at school recently. They started their Friday evening with setting up their tents and then they went for a tractor ride around Spier farm. Afterwards they enjoyed a lovely braai and a night walk under the stars... it was a wonderful experience for Teacher Liezl, the children and the parents.
Our Class 4's are loving learning isiXhosa, especially when it includes drumming!
Chalkboard Drawings
Wherever you go in the world, when you walk into a Waldorf School classroom you will feel at home. The chalkboard drawings are something unique to Steiner education. These images are from various classes in our school. The pictures create a sense of beauty that makes a child curious and interested in learning.

12 Months - 12 Fairy Tales: a campaign by the Friends of Waldorf Education With their campaign "12 Months – 12 Fairy Tales", the Friends of Waldorf Education invite you to travel around the world with twelve stories, taking readers on a colourful journey of stories, fables, and legends from all over the globe. Following our WOW-Day cookbook, the Friends of Waldorf Education will this year publish a fairy tale from a Waldorf institution worldwide every month on their website and in their newsletter. The journey begins in Brazil and leads via Colombia, Argentina, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa to Georgia, Russia, Moldova and ends in Ukraine. The stories tell, among other things, of a toad that is determined to join the birds in attending a party in the skies. But without wings this is not easy! Will the toad succeed? A South African fairy tale tells of the day when starlight, moonlight, and sun-light were brought back to the sky to save the earth. The story "Martishor" from Moldova recounts the origin of the spring festival and the custom of knitting red and white tassels. The fairy tales are illustrated with drawings, blackboard drawings or photographs and are accompanied by a brief description of the institution from which they come. They all need continuous support to allow children from poorer backgrounds an upbringing based on Waldorf education. Whether you want to read the fairy tales directly on our website or download them as a handy PDF, they are available online at waldorf-one-world.org/maerchen. The Friends' campaign runs from January to December 2020 and is aimed primarily at teachers with the warm invitation to use it for classes in grade school or kindergarten. But also parents and friends can easily print it out at home and thus build a bridge to the world. The idea of a fairy tale collection was born during the Waldorf-One-World-Day, WOW-Day for short. The worldwide student campaign takes place annually and is coordinated by the Friends of Waldorf Education. On this day, children and young people directly and actively work towards making the world a better place. For this purpose, they organize a large number of extraordinary fundraising events that connect people on all continents. All Waldorf Schools, cura-tive education and social therapy institutions and Waldorf Kindergartens worldwide are invited to take part in this campaign. The proceeds of the campaigns provide children with school time, a sheltering community or a warm meal. V. (registered association) The Friends of Waldorf Education are committed to the worldwide development and strengthening of Waldorf education. More than 600 Waldorf schools, nursery schools, curative education centres and social projects have already been financially support-ed by the International Aid Fund and accompanied in legal matters. The work areas also include coordinating the international student campaign WOW-Day, the placement of educational sponsorships as well as emergency educational assignments and volunteer services. We forward 100 percent of the donations to the institutions. Supporting members and targeted donations finance the association’s work.

Two Rooms available from March...
I am looking for a housemate to share living space. Its a chalet on a beautiful wine farm along Annan-dale Rd (close to Waldorf). Separate bathroom and shower, kitchen and lounge to share. Plenty of gar-den space. 1) There is a large 6 m x 3 m room going for R5500. This will include wifi and electricity and water. 2) second room is smaller and upstairs going for less, which is negotiable. I am happy to negotiate options if you need the second room too ( I may prefer it). The rooms are not furnished. Just built in cupboards space. So if you like nature, swimming and sunsets and a quiet spot - you'll enjoy it! I am looking for either short term or long term. You can contact me on 082 823 3569 or [email protected].
