In the USA, our Buildings group specializes in structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection consulting engineering services for our clients. Our work is embedded in the residences we live in, the skyscrapers and industrial buildings we work in, the corporate strategies of our building operations, and the resorts where we spend our vacations. We offer more than engineering design – we make your work more efficient and improve the quality of your life.

Sustainability has always been at the forefront of our practiceThe oil crises of the 1970’s established the firm’s early focus on energy conservation and sustainable design. Our 1981 Enerplex project in Princeton, New Jersey, the prototype for energy-conscious building designs of today, pioneered such technologies as daylighting, passive atria, ice-thermal storage, double wall envelopes, and ground-coupled energy exchange. Collaborating with architects, developers, builders, and building owners, we continue to deliver forward-thinking, high-performance design solutions for many high-profile buildings throughout the United States. Our buildings are also designed to reduce site waste through the use of careful material selection and construction methods including the use of recycled and locally sourced materials, when appropriate, to cut shipping and CO2 emissions. WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has accepted the 2030 Challenge, requiring adoption of high-performance targets for sustainability in new buildings, developments and major renovations. Targets are designed to reduce fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions, and increase energy consumption performance standards, with a goal of carbon neutrality for all new buildings and major renovations by 2030. We embrace this practice as the foundation of our commitment to a sustainable future. We encourage our clients, staff and colleagues to join us in protecting the environment for the benefit of future generations.

WE DELIVER TREND-SETTING SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS TO BENEFIT FUTURE GENERATIONS

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff continually invests in advancing its systems and methodologies. The firm’s ever-evolving expertise covers a wide range of essential services that contribute to a successful project outcome.

In addition to innovative, state-of-the-art Structural and MEP design expertise and experience, we are a world leader and innovator in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology.

Built EcologyBuilt Ecology is a specialist service of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff that focuses on high-performance building design in the areas of comfort, energy and water. We help clients who want to achieve exceptional performance look for innovative ways to apply existing and emerging technologies to enhance the outcomes provided by a building’s architectural and MEP engineering systems. The group builds on a significant basis of real-world experience with best-practice analysis to measure performance, and then distills the results into design advice that is easily understood, relevant and practical. Lighting DesignThe Lighting Design group is made up of dedicated professionals specializing in delivering innovative, state-of-the-art lighting design solutions. Our approach is grounded in the pursuit of a collaborative design process that results in a dynamic, sustainable lighting strategy seamlessly integrated within the fabric of the architecture. Building Information ModelingBuilding Information Modeling (BIM) creates a parametric model of the engineering content. This not only facilitates the smoothest transition from design into construction, but also increases the client’s participation in the design process, and provides an improved tool for facility management. By using such software as Tekla Structures, NavisWorks, Revit, AutoCAD and Bentley 3D model creation packages, we bring life to our engineering designs in ways not previously possible.

3D Laser Scanning3D Laser Scanning is a method of integrating measurements of an object or area into a digital file for modeling, which can then be integrated with BIM software or Virtual Design Construction applications. Our terrestrial LiDAR scanning systems capture existing conditions with a higher level of detail than conventional survey methods allow, enabling customized analysis and information management of complex and dynamic data. This service is invaluable for organizations facing extensive risk in understanding existing building conditions. Structural Steel DetailingStructural Steel Detailing is the production of detailed drawings for steel fabricators and steel erectors. Steel detailers prepare detailed plans, drawings and other documents for the manufacture and erection of steel members – i.e., columns, beams, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, joists, metal decking, etc. – used in the construction of buildings, bridges and other structures. Our steel detailing team works closely with architects, engineers, contractors and fabricators to ensure properly coordinated and detailed erection drawings and shop drawings.

Building CommissioningBuilding Commissioning is a critical, comprehensive process used to verify that building systems perform to owner requirements. By measuring and verifying “actual” building performance, we optimize energy consumption and indoor environmental quality, thereby maximizing the owner’s return on investment. The benefits of commissioning apply equally to existing building stock, where retro-commissioning and energy audits can renew and optimize the performance of older systems.
