Major—ART...of

So Let Me Introduce you to……… Ms. Gallant
Teaching
ART and
AVID .
I have a large extended family on my Mother’s side and we still
get together for all the big holidays!
I always knew I wanted to teach Art at some point in my life
because I enjoy sharing my passions and inspiring future artists!
In middle school I was very well-behaved. I enjoyed playing
sports, listening to music and spending time with my friends.
My future goals and dream vacations are essentially one in the
same. I love to travel, so I would like to go to Morocco again,
see India, South America and Greece. My dream vacation
would be to Bora Bora or the Cook Islands.

Social Studies students
are learning that the hu-
man story can be quite an
adventure. We are wrap-
ping up our look at Feu-
dalism, the Black Plague
and Renaissance. Social
Studies students will pre-
pare for their quarterly,
Board-prepared writing
assessment scheduled for
the week of October 25-
30. This is a lengthy as-
signment. Students do
not need to study for it,
but a good night’s sleep
that week will help them
focus on this complex
Document Based Ques-
tion. Our STAR time is
Thursday.
In Language Arts, we are
working on narrative writ-
ing and poetry this month.
Students have been get-
ting into character to write
journals and letters. With
our upcoming novels, a
new (and more current
version of this activity)
will be included- vlog-
ging!
In Science- We are continuing to
learn about the human
body and how the differ-
ent organ systems interact
to help us carry out
those vital life func-
tions. We will be
starting the nervous
and digestive sys-
tems in the upcom-
ing weeks.

Guidance
Corner
“October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Schools, organ-izations and communi-ties are raising aware-ness of bullying preven-tion and teaching stu-dents how to respond ef-fectively to bullying situ-ations. Southern Middle School’s Bullying Pre-vention week will start Monday, October 16th. We have some fun and educational activi-ties to spread awareness about bullying. Our goal is to ALL unite together to put an end to bullying and make SMS no place for hate. We will join other schools around the country by participating in National Unity Day on October 25th. On Oc-tober 25th, we are asking students AND staff to wear ORANGE! Be crea-tive and go all out! Wear an Orange shirt, Orange pants, Orange socks, Or-ange hats or even an Or-ange wig if you want!

After-School
Intramural Update
A well-rounded “Student-Athlete” is a student who not only excels on the playing field but in the classroom as well! Starting October 9th, students MUST be Passing ALL Core Classes in order to participate in after school Intramural Sports. Our goal is to en-sure that our students are truly well-rounded “Student-Athletes”. Starting October 17th, if a student is failing a Core Class, they CANNOT partici-pate in Intramural Sports and should be staying after school for ex-tra help with their teachers. Updated Grade Reports will be printed and provided to PE teachers every Mon-day.
