HLYIS Bulletin

BULLETIN FRIDAY 5th November 2010

Dear Parents,FAIR Please read the accompanying flyer regarding the Fair, we still need lots of books and tombola items. If youhave a company that makes handbags, jackets, or any type of consumer items our newly donated goodsstall would love to have a donation too! People help is also needed – to cook dishes and cakes and to help

work on the stalls. This is a school community Fair and the success relies on how involved everyone is.Please email your class link or teacher if you have an hour to help on Saturday.

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCEMs Curtain and I attended the annual EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools) Conferencelast weekend. There were over 1,000 delegates from schools in the region. It was an excellent eventproviding professional development for us in areas such as “Learning with the Brain in Mind”, “DevelopingInternational Schools for Sustainable Futures” and ‘Leadership –Addressing Challenges Successfully”. We willbe feeding back to staff over the coming weeks, to enable us to share the learning.

MOVEMBER No - we haven’t spelt it incorrectly! This year some school staff are participating in a campaign to supportresearch into health issues for men. The idea for Movember was sparked in 2003 over a few drinks inMelbourne, Australia. The guys behind it joked about 80's fashion and decided it was time to bring themoustache back. In order to justify their Mos (Australian slang for moustache), they used their new looks toraise money for prostate cancer research… never dreaming that facial hair would ultimately lead to a globalmovement that would get men talking about a taboo subject – their health.A Mo Bro starts Movember (the month formerly known as November) clean-shaven, and grows a

moustache all month long, garnering support from friends and family in the form of donations.

Please support our Mo Bros this month!

SCHOOL SPORTResults2nd November: Netball Matches against International Schools in Kowloon (won 2 lost 2)

SPORTS DAYS

All students (Y1-6) had a great time this week, the Y1 & 2 event went very well, with all studentsparticipating. The overall winning elements were Wind and Water - Well done! The older students had their

first event at the Tai Po Sports Centre, where they had access to all the facilities, including a very longrunning track! Everyone enjoyed the day – there were banners and cheers and lots of parent support. At the

end of the day EARTH was the winning Element, closely followed by WIND, then Fire and Water. All teams of students enjoyed the event and which we hope to now make an annual event. Special thanks to our PE

teacher, Mr Tyrrell, for his leadership, organisation and coodination of these events.
