What We Heard • Preserve grassy space where appropriate for informal neighbourhood ball games and recreational activities • Preserve hardscape close to the entryway of Building A (near entrance to the School District shared space) for community events and gatherings (ie markets, food truck festivals, community meals, etc.) • Incorporate fruit trees where conceivable for c ommunity use • Open up sight lines and create a sense of welcoming for community members approaching the village green from Cecelia Road • Keep the daycare play area gates unlocked on evenings and weekends for use by neighbourhood children • Add more trees where appropriate • Preserve the large existing London Plane tree which borders Cecelia along the boulevard • Review whether the grass field immediately south of the project across the street could be converted back into grass (currently used for School District storage) once the proposed project is complete Pacifica Housing and TL Housing Solutions are proposing an affordable housing project and accompanying public park/gathering space on what is currently the grass field beside Burnside School at 3130 Jutland Road. On February 26th 2018, the proposed plans for redevelopment were presented to the neighbourhood through a Community and Land Use Committee meeting (CALUC) hosted in the Burnside Gorge Community Centre. The neigbourhood attendees of the meeting held a vote in favour of the proposal, and provided suggested revisions to the plans to better align them with the community's vision of the neighbourhood. Primarily, the comments received by residents were centered around what they would like to see in the landscaped "village green" area. Before a formal rezoning and development permit application is made to the City (targeted for mid-June 2018), Pacifica and LADR are seeking further community feedback to ensure the revisions made to the landscape plan reflect the desires of the neighbourhood. Pacifica Housing and LADR Landscape Architects spent significant time reviewing community comments and have made the following changes to the landscape plan. Pacifica Housing and TL Housing Solutions are proposing an affordable housing project and accompanying public park/gathering space on what is currently the grass field beside Burnside School at 3130 Jutland Road. Next Steps A neighbourhood review of the landscape plan will be hosted at the Burnside Gorge Community Centre on Monday, May 28th with the presentation starting at 6PM, followed by a Question and Answer period until 8PM. Please feel free to attend and learn more about the village green, and chat with Pacifica Housing and LADR regarding any landscape suggestions.

A combined rezoning and development permit application will be submitted to the City of Victoria in June 2018. Further community feedback will be welcomed by the City of Victoria during the proposed project's Public Hearing, slated for Fall 2018. The City of Victoria will distribute notices of this hearing to neighbours, inviting the community to attend and provide feedback for Council.

Further feedback from the community is always welcomed by Pacifica Housing. Please direct any comments or questions regarding the development proposal to Jesse Margolus, Development Coordinator for Pacifica Housing: 250-385-2131 or [email protected]

What We've Done

• Added more grassy space which extends from Cecelia Road through the length of the village green • Preserved and added more detail to the stone courtyard area in front of the School District space in Building A • Added a row of fruit trees along the eastern border of the property closest to Burnside School. These fruit trees can be harvested by members of the community and students attending Burnside School • Shifted the daycare play space so that it no longer run parallel to Cecelia Road. This shift has increased sightlines and the open grassy space viewed from Cecelia, creating a sense of welcoming for residents to walk into the village green • The daycare play area will be gated for safety, but unlocked after daycare hours for community use • More trees have been added throughout the village green, as well as along the boulevard and property line• The large existing London Plane tree on the Cecelia Road boulevard will be preserved. The proposed sidewalk upgrade will navigate around the tree • School District 61 will continue to review options to reintroduce the grassy field across the street to the south of the proposed development
