Our metal shelters are engineered using aluminium, which gives them strength, style and longevity.
With the interlocking frame design, these shelters can withstand the toughest weather conditions and protect your passengers.
We can configure our shelters for you to work in all kinds of locations, to varying specifications of size and structure. We have a range of standard RAL colours you can choose from and
can accommodate a multitude of requirements such as wider or narrower roof sizes, a choice of panels (from different thicknesses of poly to toughened glass, solid or perforated), LED lighting, and Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI). Please see our Shelters Guide on our website at www.externiture.com for more detailed configuration information.
We believe our shelters are so well built that we give you a 20 year guarantee on our City Light, Sharp and Utopia shelters.

Additional configurations and construction options
We can offer wider roofs for better weather protection.Call us on 01635 862100. We love to help.
At Externiture, we are always looking to improve the long term value of your infrastructure investments. There can be a lot more to a bus stop than just ‘the standard’ configuration. We have a range of options that can make a real difference to your passengers and to your ongoing maintenance costs. The examples shown below are available across most of our ranges, however, please discuss your needs with our experienced team.
Wider roofs provide better protection from the weather.
Although visibility is obscured, perforated panels ensure that customers still have a visual awareness of their surroundings.
Solid back panels not needed as cleaning access is good. Half sized side panel for pedestrian access. Full sized side panel to block end point.
Fully see-through panels to maintain visibility of the traffic. No side panels to ensure pedestrians have a clear pathway through pavement.
Solid back panels allow the shelter to be closer to the back of the pavement (as they don’t need cleaning) and also protect from vegetation.
Need raised kerbs installed to give
DDA access?We do civils too.
Solid roofs reduce cleaning and maintenance frequency. Perforated panels obscure view into residential neighbourhood gardens.
Completely solid panels to block the view into residents’ houses. Solid and perforated panels help reduce vandalism and reduce litter visibility.

Brookes Shelters
Our installation team can perform all the necessary civil engineering requirements.
Precision excavation minimises any interaction with services that run under the surface.
Refurbishment Works
Refurbishments are becoming ever popular where it is possible to upcycle rather than replace. Refurbishing your bus shelter can have astonishing results and is a financially viable option for many local authorities, because the cost savings can be significant.
Other benefits and advantages include:- Shelters often look new after treatment- Environmentally more efficient- Large cost saving rather than purchasing new- Saves on installation costs too- Extends the life span of your shelter
20
The package we offer is a site visit to fully investigate the shelter and draw up a list of improvements. We inspect for structural safety, and record all dimensions and components so that we can produce an accurate quotation for refurbishment. Our specialist shelter maintenance teams will close down each stop, and carry out full repairs safely. Before and after photos are supplied.

An 8 bay bus shelter in need of refurbishment and re-painting. The investment needed for the refurbishment and repainting was significantly less than purchasing a new bus shelter.

Re-set into the base. New seating. New panels with mid-supports. Re-painted. And a timetable/
poster casing added. It looks almost new.
This old bus shelter looks like it’s in need of replacement. However, at Externiture, our team can work
wonders with older shelters to make them look fantastic.

Job completed. All the metal restored, protected and painted. Glass put back in and then cleaned.
Professionally executed, the shelter looks fantastic. And all done and at a price that is significantly less than buying a new shelter.
The shelter has been stripped right back as far as possible, repaired,
Ferrozinc applied and then painted with primer. It’s starting to look good.
The works were carried out ‘in situ’ with protection barriers and protective work tent. See how corroded the shelter is to begin with.

It’s not just bus shelters we can refurbish. Our team can refresh and bring any shelter back to life - be it bike shelter, smoking shelter, supermarket trolley shelter or anything similar.
Below is an example of a bike facility that we cleaned and restored. We also moved it to a better location and added a shelter to protect the bikes from the weather.

BEFOREDURING
JOB COMPLETE
The bike racks have been transformed from the dull orangey hue caused by dirt and grim back to their vibrant red. The shelter looks
smart, high quality and safe.
Solar Lighting
We offer an integrated solar lighting module, with an aluminium casing for easy mounting under the roof, without any fixings or wiring visible.
MountingMounting of the module and access to components is done from above, by removing the polycarbonate sheet in the roof. There are no visible fixings, reducing the risk of it being removed from the shelter.
SpecificationThe module contains a control device, 3x12Ah maintenance-free lead-acid batteries, three LED-lights, 1x30W solar panel with light and motion sensors. The module can be delivered in different lengths and be equipped as desired. The control device detects the solar panel´s voltage level to confirm whether it is day or night.
Operational timeDuring the day, the system is shut down for efficiency and the batteries charge. During the night, the lights are switched off until the motion sensor indicates someone has walked into the shelter and then the lights switch on. Alternatively, the lights stay lit at a lower standby level in night mode, then switching to full brightness when somebody enters the shelter.
Low power modeIf the battery charge falls substantially, the shelter will switch to a low power mode. This gives reduced lighting levels, but prolongs the operating window. Once the system has fully recharged, it resumes normaloperation. If the system remains in night mode for more than 24 hours, for example if a solar panel is covered withsnow, the system will shut down preventing the batteries from discharging. The system will remain shut down until daylight is detected and will then revert to it’s normal operation.
CapacityIn its standard configuration the system has up to 10 nights capacity with fully charged batteries.

Standard or PremiumWhere is the shelter located? High priority location, main corridor, rural, high passenger volume, near a school etc. Do you need the shelter to look stunning or is it more of a ‘utility’ requirement.
HeightA shelter needs 2.1m clearance from the ground. If it is near a cycle lane, we recommend 2.3m. If you need Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI), we use 2.1m clearance from the bottom of the RTPI display.
WidthHow much space do we need? How busy is the stop? How many people may it need to shelter. How much space do we actually have? Pavement width? How many back panels will this need? How exposed to the weather is the shelter?
ColourWant to stand out or blend in? We can supply shelters and seating in a wide range of colours.
Roof Shape
End Panel Sizes
Position/EnvironmentAny sloping of pavement? Pedestrian access? Foliage? Proximity to houses? Likelihood of vandalism? Is it on a cycle path? Is it on a bend (visibility)? Rural or Town?
Our Access to siteSpeed of the road the bus shelter is on? Curve of the road? Parking for our vans/crane? Is traffic management required?
Technical/ElectricalIf you need RTPI, you may need power or solar panels? Lighting? Clean Air Shelters?
AccessDrop kerbs? Raised kerbs? Kassel kerbs? Footway Construction? Disability Discrimination Act considerations? Line Marking?
Special Passenger GroupsSchools/Colleges? Youth? Elderly? Disabled? Prams?
Project ConsiderationsWhen do you need it done by? Funding? Bulk/combined purchases with other councils? Do you need additional requirements such as posts, flags, timetable case, poster case? Do you need any clearway line marking or other civil engineering requirements?
