Inspection pits would not disappear in suchgreat numbers in favour of vehicle lifts if theergonomic advantages of modern technologywere not apparent. The most significant benefits include optimum working height, better access to the underside of the vehicle(especially important in the case of underfloorengines) and free-running wheels – not tomention the immense improvement of working conditions.

1) Number of lifting rams: 2, 3 or 4 rams are possible. One of theseis generally a fixed installation. The othersare adjustable, but may also be fixedinstallations – depending on the axle spacing of the vehicles to be lifted.

2) Lifting capacity per ram: 8,000 kg,14,000 kg, 22,000 kg, even up to 35,000kg if required (see also pages 14/15).

3) Supports: Eight of these are illustratedon this page, a further one on the cover,and another three are shown on the following pages. Exchangeable slidingsupports are most frequently used.Whether you prefer universal supports orspecial customized lifting pads for speci-fic vehicles – we solve every problem to your entire satisfaction.

4) Installation: In new buildings or where the floor conditions present no difficulty, the single-stage ram is the bestand most economical solution. With aconstructional depth of only 1,385 mm,the telescopic ram is the ideal version for installing into existing pits or in waterpreservation areas with high ground waterlevels. Preassembled JAB lifting units inself-contained foundation cassettes areideal for retroactive installation in existingworkshops or pits, where they can beintegrated with no trouble.

5) Optional extras: These include controlunits with electronic operating conveni-ence, special safety measures, versionsexpressly for wet environments and manyother practical features to help simplifyworkshop procedures.

The rams, lifting supports and position adjusting feature, together withthe types of foundations and coverings,are components which allow for numerouscombinations to provide customers with a multitude of possibilities to find the bestsolution to every problem and for everyapplication.

To ensure that the right decision is taken, it is however essential to have expert guidance.

First and foremost,expert guidance

Supplementary to the inspection pitswhich have been in use up till now, moreand more utility vehicle work-shops areenjoying the advantages of modern multi-ram lifts. And the extremely low groundclearance of present-day buses leaves noother option than to lift the vehicles up.

But even in the case of trucks, which aremore easily accessible, a JAB lift willprove to be a real advantage by effectingperceptible rationalization and bringingabout better working conditions.

The two-ram lift has become very popularbecause its performance is adequate formost utility vehicles. The position of oneof the rams is electromotively movable toensure that vehicles with different wheel bases can be lifted.

2ramsBoth rams have their own drive unit and can be driven synchronously or individually. The synchronization of therams remains unaffected by varying loaddistribution.

The lift is suitable for trucks, semi-trailertowing vehicles and standard buses withone front axle and up to three rear axles.Exchangeable sliding supports make itpossible to lift all types of vehicle of theappropriate weight category with a maximum of safety.

Mechanical safety supports with automatically functioning notches areavailable as extras, although these arenot stipulated by the employers' liabilityinsurance associations.

3ramsThe three-ram lift manages almost every type of vehicle. It is generally usedfor lifting articulated buses and completeroad trains. The middle lifting ram is normally a fixed installation whereas thetwo other rams are adjustable to allow for different wheel bases.

Although design, technology and operating comfort are the same as thetwo-ram lift, the system-related synchro-nization is supplemented by an electronicsafety device which eliminates unintentio-nal differences in height, or reduces them to max. 50 mm.

To ensure that the versatility of the liftremains unrestricted, the synchronizationcontrols can be switched off. This enablesthe rams to be driven individually or inpairs. Consequently, the 3-ram lift alsoconstitutes a 2-ram lift.

Lifts with plate lift supports ("PL" headpieces) are ideal for emergency service and repair work. They are particularly suitable for low-platform buses and were developedin close cooperation with the BSAG (Bremen Streetcar Company).

They enable exceptionally short set-uptimes since manual fitting with various lifting elements is not required.

Narrow ram positioning ranges makeshallow foundation trenches possible.The optimal addition is an electronic traverse drive control Type AWBP for actuating the lifting points.

Technical features of JAB lifts

Piston stroke 1,900 mm(single-stage and telescopic cylinders).

Lifting capacity per cylinder8,000, 14,000, 22,000 or 35,000 kg.

Even with telescopic cylinders, bothcylinders have full lifting capacity.

Pistons are hard-chrome plated.

High-grade 3-ply interconnected bearingmaterial ensures great transverse moment (max. permissible 40,000 Nm).

Internal locking devices(also in telescopic cylinders).

Pit covers plates max. 3,000 kg singlewheel drive-on pressure (trucks/buses), up to 5,000 kg on request.

The pit in the entire position adjustmentrange is automatically covered.

Emergency descent by way of simpleaccess through assembly plate ofhydraulic cylinder, outside the contours of the vehicle.

All units and seals are freely accessiblefrom above through assembly plate.

Lift slide supports are externally adjustable to specific vehicles (brackets).

Traverse adjustment drive, tandem traction, robust (link chains).

Electronic synchronization and monitoring device (for HVD and HVV, also for HVZ on request) microprocessor-controlled. Absolute measuring (independent of voltage).

Four ranged lifting cylinders ensure optimal application possibilities, providingtwo 2-ram lifts and a 3-ram lift. As if thatwere not enough, all four rams can also beused at one time, so that articulated road

trains, double-axle vehicles or articulatedbuses can be lifted without difficulty. The E-controls with integrated electronicsynchronization ensure ease of operations in all cases.

Wash-proof version for wet environmentsconsisting of encased position adjustmentdrive with stainless shaft and Icosit-coated lifting cylinder.

Hot-galvanized framework, wheel boxesand covering plates – particularly recom-mended for washing platforms.

Power supply (suspended control element) – the permanently well-orderedoperating device. See also page 13.

Safety locking device with mechanicalfastening and hydraulic release.

Segmented plate covering (versions BSand WS) instead of standard telescopicsliding plates.

Electronic control unit for traverse drive,Type AWBP.

R-position indicator shows whether all head-plates are in the bottom restingposition – ideal in the case of "PL" liftsupports.

1. Standard-ram (version BT and BS):The standard-ram version is the obviouschoice for new buildings where the bearing plate is included in constructionplanning. The installing depth plays onlya secondary role since, in most cases,inspection pits will have to be builtanyway. The ground conditions arehowever decisive for this basic version.

2. Telescopic ram (version BT and BS):The shallow installing depth (approx. 1,385 mm) makes it possible tofit this version into existing pits.

Lifts in this version are ideal for use inwater preservation regions or where theground water level is exceptionally high.

3. Telescopic ram in foundation cassettes (version WT and WS):

This version is the simplest solution for retroactive installation in existing workshops. The lift is delivered as apreassembly in JAB self-supporting steelcassettes and can be easily mounted inthe prepared foundations.

Due to the fact that JAB is a specialistmanufacturer in the sense of the applica-ble legislation, the foundation cassettescan be supplied with acceptance certifi-cation to § 19 of the water resources law.This version can be integrated withoutdifficulty into existing pits, provided theyhave a depth of at least 1,450 mm.

On all lifts each ram is driven individually and directly by its respective hydraulicunit, eliminating the need for pipework installations.

Operating is effected with an electriccontrol device. The rams can be lifted,lowered or adjusted sidewards, eitherindividually or synchronously, by meansof an easy-to-use press-button actuati-on.

All lifting units feature the followingsafety devices: A blocking mechanismautomatically interrupts any movementwhile the drive is switched off or fails –since there are no hydraulic supply con-duits, burst pipes are eliminated.

The motor functions in the reversedirection of rotation by downward moti-on and acts as a brake in the hypersyn-chronous range to prevent the liftingdevice descending too rapidly. In additi-on, a lowering diaphragm checks thedownward speed by any defects in thedrive unit.

On request we also supply the autolifts with a mechanical locking device (auto-matic safety brackets with notches).

For countries where legislation so requi-res, three- and four-ram lifts are equip-ped with an electronic control devicewhich restricts any difference in syn-chronism between the individual rams toa maximum of 50 mm.

The hydraulics principle again proves itsabsolute superiority when such weightyvehicles are to be lifted. And in this heavyduty field too, JAB is intent on maintaining its lead.

Of course, slightly more planning andexpenditure are required, as this BSAGlift system for low-platform tramway carsdemonstrates. As far as the JAB contri-bution is concerned, the system consistsessentially of four pairs of lifting ramswith a lifting capacity of 12,000 kg perpair and four drive units.

The fully-hydraulic synchronizationdemands utmost working precision and inthis case runs on a patented synchronismprinciple. The electronic synchronization ofthe pairs of lifting rams with each other is controlled in a similar way to electronicallycontrolled car lifts in repair workshops.

Many other features are familiar from truck lifting installations – in particular theabsolutely foolproof safety devices. Thesame applies to the JAB heavy-duty lift fortracked tanks as used by the NATO. If you would like to know more, just ask.

It is self-evident that this kind of transportvehicle for in-company logistics should notbe too light. On the other hand, a truck liftwould be a slight exaggeration and take up too much space.

With this in mind – and in response to thosecustomers who had already enquired aboutsuch a possibility – JAB constructed thisextremely compact special platform lift forfork stackers. Fully-hydraulic, of course, asexpected of JAB equipment. And featuringevery convenience – with no concessions.

This lift is available in three versions with lifting capacities of 8,000, 12,000 and15,000 kg. By using detachable supportplates it can be adjusted to any type ofvehicle – in an incredibly short time.

When it isn't in use it disappears into thefloor – and because the head-plates form a flush fitting with the floor surface there isno danger of tripping. The only leadsnecessary are for the electric connections.Pure joy.
