The northern lights are the

result of collisions between gassiness

particles In the earths

atmosphere with charged particles released from the suns atmosphere. Variations in color

are due to the type of particles

that are colliding.

WHAT CAUSES THE NORTHERN LIGHTS?

The northern lights comes from some Latin words. aurora is he name of the roman goddess of dawn,

later it became the word for dawn it’s self. Borealis is a Latin word for the north. So when you see the northern lights its as if were seeing

the dawn in the north staring in the night sky.

HOW DID THE LIGHTS GET IT’S NAME?

People had many different beliefs about what the

northern lights were. The lutes told tales of dead

souls playing walrus skull soccer in the sky. According

to a Chinese myth, the lights were fighting

dragons. Russians believed them to be a sign of child

birth, while the Greeks believed them to be a sign

of war.
