PIECING INSTRUCTIONS:Press towards the darker fabric when assembling.

A. Half-Square Triangles: 1. Place one 37/8" Fabric E square on top of one 37/8"

Fabric D square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 1). Sew 1/4" away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 1). Cut the two squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 1) to make two E/D half-square triangles (Fig. 1). Press. Trim the blocks to measure 31/2" square. Repeat to make a total of twenty-four E/D blocks.

2. Repeat Step 1 using eight 37/8" Fabric E squares and eight 37/8" Fabric K squares to make a total of sixteen E/K blocks (Fig. 2).

3. Repeat Step 1 using twenty-four 37/8" Fabric J squares and twenty-four 37/8" Fabric K squares to make a total of forty-eight J/K blocks (Fig.3).

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS:Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. 1/4" seam allow-ance is included in measurements and all strips are cut across the width of the fabric unless noted otherwise. Label pieces and keep together until ready to sew. These instructions are based on unwashed fabrics.

4. Cut seven 11/2" x 42" strips. Piece the strips together to make two 11/2" x 721/2" strips and two 11/2" x 621/2" strips.

H. Pattern #23290 – LTGRE1 (scrolls): 1. Cut three 67/8" x 42" strips. Sub-cut into sixteen 67/8"

squares. Cut each square across one diagonal to make thirty-two triangles.

I. Pattern #23289 – MUL1 (holly): 1. Cut one 61/2" x 42" strip. Sub-cut into six 61/2" squares. 2. Cut one 37/8" x 42" strip. Sub-cut into four

4. Repeat Step 1 using four 37/8" Fabric K squares and four 37/8" Fabric I squares to make a total of eight I/K blocks (Fig. 4).

B. Block Assembly: 5. Follow Figure 5 to sew

together one 61/2" Fabric I square, eight J/K half-square triangles, three E/K half- square triangles and one I/K half-square triangle to make one 121/2" Block One square. Repeat to make four Block One squares.

6. Follow Figure 6 to sew together one 61/2" Fabric I square, eight J/K half-square triangles, two E/K half-square triangles and two I/K half- square triangle to make one 121/2" Block Two square. Repeat to make two Block Two squares.

7. Sew one 11/2" x 51/2" Fabric B strip to each side of one 51/2" Red Fabric A square. Sew one 11/2" x 71/2" Fabric B strip to the top and bottom of the 51/2" Fabric A square (Fig. 7). Trim the block to 61/2" to make one Block Three Center. Repeat to make six Block Three Centers total.

8. Repeat Step 7 with eight 51/2" Green Fabric A squares, sixteen 11/2" x 51/2" Fabric B strips and sixteen 11/2" x 71/2" Fabric B strips to make eight Block Four Centers.

9. Sew one 2" x 31/2" Fabric D strip to each side of one 31/2" Fabric C strip to make one side unit (Fig. 8). Repeat to make twenty-four side units total.

10. Follow Figure 9 to sew together one 61/2" Block Three Center square, four side units and four E/D half-square triangles to make one 121/2" Block Three Unit. Repeat to make six Block Three units.

11. Sew one Fabric G triangle to each side of the Block Four Centers from Step 8 (Fig. 10).

12. Sew one Fabric H triangle to each side of the Block Four square (Fig. 10).

13. Place one 31/2" Fabric E square on the top left corner of the Block Four square, right sides together (Fig. 11). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 11). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, 1/4" away from the sewn seam.

14. Refer to Figure 11 to add a 31/2" Fabric E square to each of the remaining corners of the Block Four square to complete one 121/2" Block Four square.

15. Repeat Steps 11-14 to make eight Block Four squares.

16. Use the Flip and Sew method from Step 13 and follow Figure 12 to sew two 31/2" Fabric G squares to the upper corners of one 61/2" x 121/2" Fabric F strip and two 31/2" Fabric E squares to the lower corners of the Fabric F strip to make one 61/2" x 121/2" Border Strip. Repeat to make eighteen Border Strips total.

17. Use the Flip and Sew method from Step 13 and follow Figure 13 to sew one 31/2" Fabric E square to one corner of one 61/2" Fabric G square to make one 61/2" Corner Block. Repeat to make four corner blocks.

C. Quilt Top AssemblyRefer to the quilt photo and diagram while assembling: 18. Sew together four Block One squares, two Block Two

squares, six Block Three squares and eight Block Four squares to make the 481/2" x 601/2" quilt top.

19. Sew together five border strips as shown to make one side border. Repeat to make a second side border. Sew the borders to sides of quilt.

20. Sew together four border strips and two corner blocks to make the top border. Repeat to make the bottom border. Sew the borders to the quilt top.

21. Sew one 11/2" x 721/2" Fabric G strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 11/2" x 621/2" Fabric G strip to the top and bottom of the quilt.

22. Layer and quilt as desired. 23. Sew the seven 21/2" x 42"

Fabric J strips together end-to-end with 45° seams to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

24. Bind as desired.
