How did you become a volunteer at FV?My daughter worked here at the time. What was your first impression of FV? Huge and impressive! When your family/friends find out that you volunteer at FV, what do they say or ask? They ask, “What do you do at Felician Village?”What might someone be surprised to know about you? That I like to file papers and put things in order. What is it like to volunteer at FV? It’s very interesting. If someone was hesitant to volunteer at Felician Village, what would you tell them? Try it. You will like it!

With the help of the teaching staff from Jackson School, Dale Krueger of the Kiwanis Club and Volunteer Coordi-nator, Tim Lindloff, 14 residents from across campus became pen pals with the K-Kids from Jackson Elementary School in Manitowoc. The residents and students alike have been busy writing letters back and forth getting to know one another. The project will again conclude with a “meet and greet” gathering of all Pen Pals for a social.

And The Winner Is...We are excited to announce the winner of our Christmas Card Design Contest! Gini Lippold, a resident at The Court, painted this scene for the design of this year’s Felician Village Christmas card. The contest began on Monday, October 2, when 24 Felician Village resident artists attended a painting class taught by Silver Lake College Student United Way. The students then had the difficult responsibility of judging the entries and choosing six to go to the final round. A voting process by employees, residents, visitors and Facebook followers then determined the winner. The five runners-up were: Jerome Gores, The Villa Grove Dolores Dvorachek, St. Mary’s Judith Stuntz, The Gardens Eline Glaeser, St. Mary’s Gloria Smith, The Villa Lakeside. Cards are available for purchase in the Village Market now! Please congratulate Gini when you see her and thank all the artists who participated!

Don’t forget! Please remember to log your volunteer hours. It is greatly appreciated.

Resident Companion ProgramWe need you. Our residents need you. Do you have a little time to share? Time to bring a smile to our resident’s faces? Consider serv-ing as friendly companions to residents who are looking for visits. Though volunteer com-panions are already in place, it is our goal to strategically structure our companion program in order to make the program more effective and efficient. Our goal is simple. Offer companion visits to any resident who would benefit from a com-panion visit. The need for socialization and companionship, to have friends, never ends. Can you provide just a few regular visits a month to brighten a resident’s day? Please consider serving as a companion. If you would like to know more about this program please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Tim Lindloff, at 684-7171,ext. 276 or email, [email protected] for information.Companionship is about . . .• Listening with the eyes & the heart; it is not about analyzing with the head.• Compassion; it is not about expertise.• Learning from others; it is not about teaching them• Discovering the gifts of sacred silence; it is not about filling every moment with words.• Becoming a friend; not replacing a loved one.

A Season of GivingWhen Andy Williams first sang “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” he was on to some-thing catchy. The holiday spirit makes people feel happy and grateful. Philanthropic giving is meaningful during this time of the year. Experts tell us that about 60% of all donations given to organizations are done in the last three months of the year. Why do people give? Everyone has a personal reason, however, most cited is that people give to organizations whose mission resonates with them. The most benevolent cause is a person’s faith-based organization. Feli-cian Village fulfills both reasons. We believe it is why you have opened your generous hearts to us.We extend our gratitude to all who give to Felician Village. In 1887, St. Mary’s was established to help care for the poor, elderly, and infirmed. Today, we still serve the same community. Will you please consider a donation to support the work our Felician Sisters began 130 years ago? For the last three years, the Dementia Center of Excellence has been a priority. We also improved the AV in our Chapel. Memorial and tribute gifts have provided special thoughts of lost loved ones. Resident activities and music brighten the spirits of residents and employees. What-ever area resonates deepest with you, we thank you and many blessings to you. If there’s an area you would like to support, contact Renee at 684-7171, ext. 381 or [email protected]. Your gift will truly make our residents enjoy The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
