The House of Representatives Introduce Animal
Fighting Bill
To help curb what many call one of the scourges of our
country, the House of Representat ives was recently
presented with The Animal Fighting Spectator
Prohibit ion Act.
The bill was brought forth on July 11th in a bi-part isan effort by Republican Tom
Marino of Pennsylvania, and Democrat Betty Sutton of Ohio.
There are several factors that make the bill properly known as H.R. 2492 interest ing.
One of which is the fact that it targets the attendees and the organizers of any
event that showcases any form of animal fight ing.
Another is that star Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick has stepped up and
thrown his entire weight behind the bill.
Vick has placed many of his dog fight ing related troubles in his rearview mirror. His
extra support for this bill at a t ime where he has reestablished himself both on and off
the field has led many of his former crit ics such as The Humane Society, to turn the
other cheek when it comes to his dog fight ing convict ion in 2007.
As the bill moves forward, it w ill be interest ing to see if either Vick´s star power or
the possibility of st iffer law enforcement w ill change the climate of animal fight ing in
America´s urban and rural environments.
