Well by gosh, here it is the Holiday season again and as usual we have done and are doing all sorts of stuff. We had a great workshop / hot dog lunch, and as I'm writing this Thanksgiving morning, we here at the Carr house are anticipating lots of goodies.

And then, the great "COW PIE RIDE" on Friday. It looks like we are going to have a record turnout for the Christ-mas party this year, which makes it great to be associated with such a fun group. The new vest program is well underway and Verdi is doing a great job keeping up with it, as are many others. Well I guess I'll get "outta here" and let Mugsey emit redderick as have I. Uncle Jim Boob And now more from the Back Seat. Ah yes The Cow Pie Ride, I cannot wait for tomorrow as this is one of my favorite rides. The scenery is beautiful, and the food is great. You never know what you might see along the road, we have seen coyotes, once a mountain lion (or some kind of cat), of course cows (free range types). It’s really neat. I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving, as I know we will. Ride Safe, Mugsey

Golden State Gems It’s hard to believe, but this is our last news-letter article as your District Directors. We have been ‘on the throne’, so to speak, for 3 years already and it’s time to step aside and let our good friends Anita and JR Alkire take over the Queen Dom. We hope you didn’t mind us using ‘The Queen and Her Court’ as a theme. We thought it would be a fun thing

to do and it seems to have been well received. We’ve been having fun with it. Rick will miss being the King of Nothing, but all good things must come to an end. We will be stepping down officially at the District Staff meeting, which is where you will find your Chap-ter Officers on January 20th. If you have any suggestions about things you would like to see done differently next year, let them know so they can share your feedback with us. Speaking of suggestions; we would especially like to have some feedback about the District Rally. We were disappointed that we had the lowest turnout this year that we can remember at any rally since we have been in GWRRA. We assume that the cost of gas was a major factor, but that doesn’t seem enough to make this big a difference. Something most people either don’t think about or don’t understand is how much work is required to put on a District Rally. It takes months of negotiations and searching for a facility that is both large enough to handle us and can give us a reasonable room rate. This has been getting more and more difficult over the years, which is why you sometimes see the rally back at the same location once in a while. Another fact that you may not think of is that the District Rally is our only source of revenue to run the state for the entire year. Just like the Chapters, the District has to be self suffi-cient. No money comes to us from the Region or Phoenix. We need to know how you feel about things like having a dinner, seminars, rider ed, skills games, talent show and everything else that we have done or could do. The main thing is that we all get together and have a fun and safe time, but we also want to make sure it’s some-thing you want to do.

This seems like a good time to publicly thank all of our staff that has helped get the job done these three years. With a state this big, there is no way two people could possibly handle all the work re-quired to keep things running smoothly, not to mention helping us through the rough spots. Not that there were many, but you can never have this many people involved in an organization without hitting a few bumps along the road. Speaking of staff; in case you were not aware of it, your Chapter officers are all on District Staff and of course we could never keep the state running without them. I mentioned this recently, have you hugged your CD lately? Please don’t forget to tell them how much you appreciate their hard work. Since the organization depends on volunteers so heavily, hugs and thank you’s are what help make it worth while. We also want to thank all of you, the members. When you get right down to it, without the members, there would be no organization. Even though we had lots of friends when we started, we have made many, many more in the past three years. We truly value each and every one of you and wish you all the best in the future. If the old adage is true, that time flies when you’re having fun, then we must have been having a blast. It hardly seems possible that is has al-ready been three years since Rick Dyer asked us to take his place. I was honored to be the first female California District Director and we have seen a lot of changes since then. In case you were not aware, we now have a new female president of the organization in Phoenix. How about that? Rick and I have truly enjoyed being your Queen and King and I hope you have all enjoyed us being your District Directors. Don’t think you have seen the last of us. Anita has already said that she intends to make me the Queen mum or something, so I still have to hang around. I really don’t mind, what would I do with all my spare time if I wasn’t spending it with all of you nice folks? As usual, until we meet again: Ride safe, live each day to its fullest and don’t look back. Joyce and Rick Elmore, California District Directors
