WELCOME TO CBSC

Dear delgate,

Let us be the first to welcome you on behalf of the Canadian Association of Business Students (CABS) to Toronto. We, the Organizing Committee (OC) of the Canadian Business School Conference (CBSC), are extremely excited to share the experience of this conference with you. We feel that Toronto and Ryerson have so much to offer, and it is our hope that by the end of the weekend, you will agree with us.

Over the course of CBSC, we will be doing our humble best to help you develop your organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills so you can be the best you can be in the coming scholastic year.

We look forward to meeting each and every one of you, and helping you to develop the skills to grow both yourselves, and your respective organizations.

Sincerely,

WELCOME TO TORONTO

To my fellow leaders of tomorrow,

Before the official launch of the Canadian Business Schools Conference, there are a few things you should know about its host school, the Ted Rogers School of Management. Hereinafter referred to as “Teddy’s House,” the Ted Rogers School of Management is the largest undergraduate business school in Canada. It is one of the first buildings on our Campus with a retail level open to the public, and reflects Ryerson’s history as a community builder. Housed within this architectural wonder is the Ryerson Commerce Society, the umbrella organization that works to bridge the gap between all five schools of business and acts as the voice of all 9,500+ commerce students. Having said that, on behalf of all students here at TRS, we welcome you to our home and to the glorious city we all know as the 6ix. The OC and our wonderful Management team has been working really hard to put this event together, and I hope you will enjoy your time here.

The best part about being a member school of the Canadian Association of Business Students is the network we are given the opportunity to be apart of, and I’m positive as we discuss our objectives for this upcoming academic year over the next few days we’ll gain greater access to resources to better accomplish our goals. To many, the intersection of Bay and Dundas represents budding success - and this weekend, with all of our BSA Presidents and JDC Captains here the statement rings true more than it ever has before. Here’s to an incredible conference ahead. In the words of the late Ted Rogers, “the best is yet to come.”

Get Ready. Get Set. Make your Mark,

Kiran Singh President, Ryerson Commerce Society 2015-2016

OUR KEYNOTESJustin Hein | Thursday EveningJustin, simply put, is a serial entrepreneur. Justin was the founder of what is now a soon to be 33 member national organization that represents business students and their business councils on a national level. That organization, of course, is CABS. After Justin’s time with the RCS, as Vice President, Corporate Relations, Justin took two years to build out the idea of CABS and during his time turned a 4 team executive serving 13 members into an 8 executive team with 27 members. Justin then spent some time in the DMZ focusing more on his entrepreneurial roots before picking up some experience in Canada’s competitive telecommunications space. Moving on with much more technical experience from his time in telecommunications and some experiences from one of his former startups, Justin co-founded FR8nex.com and operationally serves as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. Justin and his team work out of Ryerson’s Digital Media Zone to deliver a service that can disrupt the freight and shipping industry in North America. We are excited to hear Justin speak a little bit about his experiences from the DMZ, motivating teams, and embracing new technologies in a disruptively entrepreneurial fashion.

Mark Featherstonhaugh | Friday EveningMark is a self described leader in training and a star problem solver. He is currently studying his MBA at Ivey and nearly 4 years with Deloitte in their Management and Analytics Technology Consulting practice. What you won’t hear from Mark is the impact he has had on the CABS circuit. Mark spent two full years with the JDCC Sprott team as a Captain, and the following year Chaired the JDC Central competition. Someone close to the JDCC event described Mark’s efforts towards the JDCC competition as the biggest imprint that any one student leader has put into JDCC, with the 2012 JDCC arguably being the best ever held. Given the great impact Mark has had on JDCC and the CABS circuit as a whole, we are excited to have Mark back for our alumni dinner to reconnect with familiar faces and make some new connections with those currently in the circuit, where he will speak on Leadership and Active Problem Solving.

Adam Normand | Saturday EveningAdam is a sensei in entrepreneurship, not for profits, and project management. Outside of the CABS circuit, Adam spent time with BDC in underwriting and account management for 3 years before moving to Bell and Bell Media on the project management and budgeting side of IT. Adam now calls Toronto home, working as a Business Analyst with Scotiabank. During his time at Bishop’s, Adam was heavily involved with Bishop’s Enactus Chapter, focusing in events and corporate partnerships. It’s at BIshop’s where his corporate partnership roots began, where he coordinated the very first of the long standing Bishop’s University Dragon’s Den events. Adam made the jump to CABS after serving as the BUCS General Controller, starting out as Vice President, Finance, in the 2012-2013 school year. Adam went on to become President of CABS in the following year, putting blood, sweat, and tears into the national organization, walking away with the Male Lifetime Achievement Award. Adam recently oversaw the Corporate portfolio for CABS, in a year that JDCC continued to grow and bring in record sponsorship revenues. We are eager to hear more from Adam discuss the keys to success in today’s business landscape and his take on the Canadian political space on our Saturday evening.
