Flvine Horse Editions and The Florida Review propose a joint publishing project with poet John Yau and visual artist Thomas Nozkowski (resumes attached).

Flying Horse Press will produce an edition of 100 artist's books hand-printed with traditional printmaking, i.e. Silkscreen and letterpress-not digital or offset lithography. Each copy of the book will be hand bound. The Florida Review will publish a selection of these poems in issue 32.1 (Spring 2007). This joint venture draws together UCF's only two creative publication mechanisms in the following ways:

allows for joint advertising and promotion provides professional experience to both undergraduate and graduate students in the Art and English Departments promotes UCF as an institution of art and culture.

Flying Horse Editions, (FHE) is a nonprofit publisher of museum-quality, limited- edition art books and prints by internationally renowned artists and authors. The press was started in 1991 as three pronged approach to research, education, and outreach within the Department of Art and over its fifteen year history has published many projects with leading national and international artists and authors, which are included in many prominent public and private collections.

The Florida Review (FR) is UCF's nationally circulated literary magazine. In its 32-year history, FR has published the best emerging and established literary artist; FR has been sited as one of the highest-quality literary magazines by New Pages and the Best American Series. FR has earned a Citation of Achievement from the Council for Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP), has been listed in Writer's Digest "Fiction Fifty," and has been a featured publication in The Novel and Short Story Market. Work first printed in FR has been awarded special mention in The Pushcart Prizes, Best American Essays. Best American Travel Writing, and Best American Non-essential Reading.

In the last 5 years, Flying Horse Editions has placed publications into many prestigious collections, including the selected following, and the press is committed to placing this project in as many venues and collections as possible. Since FHE has ongoing relationships with many of these institutions, placement of this NozkowskiNau project in their collections is highly likely: Sun Trust Bank Collection, Tampa Bay, FL, Sun Trust Bank Collection, Jacksonville, FL, The Zimmerli Museum of Art, Rutgers. New Brunswick, NJ, Stanford University Special Collections, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University, University of Delaware, Special Collections, University of Tulsa, Special Collections, The New York City Public Library, The Montgomery Museum of Art, Alabama, The Asheville Museum of Art, Asheville, North Carolina, The Comell Museum of Art, Orlando, Florida, The City Museum of Orlando; Florida, The Texas Tech Museum of Art, Lubbock, Texas among others.

The Florida Review has a stable subscriber base of over 1,000 readers and libraries worldwide. FR is distributed by Ebsco and available for sale on amazon.com.

Flying Horse Editions operates out of an AUX budget through the art department. Funding for FHE is raised by the director of FHE and comes exclusively from members of the community to fund the program. Artists and authors apply to FHE by submitting writing samples and artworks samples with are reviewed by the FHE Board of Directors. The Board of Directors includes representatives of the Department of Art and many prominent members of the community, including:

The Honorable Judy Albertson, Board of Trustees, UCF Mrs. Francine Newberg, Council of 101, Orlando Museum ofArt

a Mrs. Susan Rosoff, Director of Education, Orlando Museum of Art Mr. Jim Parham, Chief Curator, Sun Trust Bank of Florida Mr. Steven Alpert, Principle, House of Blues, Comcast. Boston, MA

The FIorida Review receives limited printing and distribution costs from the English Department and maintains an AUX budget supported by subscriptions, donations, and contest fees.

Both John Yau and Thomas Nozkowski are members of the Mason Gross School of Art at Rutger's University. Rutger's has committed to this collaboration between faculty at their university and our own. The project will be displayed at the Zimmerli Museum of Art at Rutgers, in close proximity to NYC and the Zimmerli will arcluve plates and production sketches of the project, documenting the creation of the book and the collaborative project for scholarly study in the future. FHE will donate a copy of the Project to Special Collections, ensuring archiving for our own students and their scholarly study.

FHE's board have already approved the NozkowskiNau collaboration at FHE and have committed $10,000.00 to the publication of the project. $3000.00 this budget has already been spent in the designing process and proofing of the publication to understand feasibility.

Ryan Burkhart is the director of Flying Horse Press. He received his MFA in Visual Arts from the Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas and his BFA in Fine Arts from Ohio State University. His work has been widely exhibited in national and international exhibitions since he began showing actively in 2000. F This collaborative effort is the first of many projects that FHE and FR can complete in concert. In the future, it will be possible for FHE to produce broadsides of FR authors and perhaps limited edition chapbook projects of Fa's Editors Prize winners. This interdisciplinary project brings together the interests of the Art Department and the English Department, bridges the gap between book arts and literary publication, increases national readership in both venues, and encourages collaborative projects between our undergraduate and graduate students.
