From the Principal Welcome back to Term 3. I hope you all enjoyed the magnificent weather over the holidays and managed to spend some quality time with your families. Over the holidays we have had some work completed at the school. Solar panels have been installed which will enable us to be more sustainable. More work has been completed on the new 5/6 area just to the left of the 5/6 building. We are looking forward to that being completed which will give the 5s and 6s their own quiet space. We are still waiting for the carpet to be installed into the flooded areas in the 5/6 building but that should be happening shortly.

Reports/Continuous reporting This year we are transitioning to a new form of reporting on student achievement. As you know we are now putting work samples on the parent portal for you to see your child’s achievements in an ongoing way. Last term we put up annotated samples of Numeracy with comments from teachers as to their growth. This term we will be having Reading and Writing samples available, you will be advised as to when these are available on the portal. This should give you as parents a more detailed and specific understanding of your child’s progress. To access these samples of work you will need to go to the parent portal and then put in your individual code which will be the same as the one that you need for mid-year and end of year reports. The mid-year and end of year reports will look different. There will still be the dot points showing your child’s level of achievement, the effort and behaviour ratings as well as the personal quality ratings. However there will no longer be the ‘I can statements’. The general comment will cover their personal qualities and work ethic as well as their integrated learning New Teacher’s As you are all aware Mrs Russell is taking maternity leave from Thursday 23rd May will be her last day. We are very excited to announce that we have appointed Mrs Caitlin Whiting as her replacement. Mrs Whiting will commence working at Chirnside Park as of the 16th May to ensure an extensive handover. Mr Norton has also decide to follow another career opportunity, he will be leaving us as of Friday. Mr Simon Plumridge will be taking PE till the end of the year.

Farewell Mr Norton This is my final week as P.E teacher at Chirnside Park Primary School. I will be continuing to work at my gym in the city, taking on greater responsibility and more group training sessions. I will always look back fondly on my time at CPPS over the past 6 years as P.E coordinator and 3 years as a relief teacher prior to that. Time has gone very quickly. We have a terrific school here with beautiful grounds, facilities and amazing, dedicated, hard working, caring staff and leaders.

I'd like to say an enormous thank-you to all the wonderful families that have assisted at the many sports events that I have been a part of over the years. They wouldn't have taken place without your help.

I pass on my best wishes to all the students form CPPS and encourage you all to chase your dreams no matter how ambitious they seem, or what other people say to put you down. Always remain fit and healthy by staying active, finding a sport that you love and eating a healthy, balanced diet. Thank-you Chirnside Park Primary School.
