The NutcrackerIt’s Christmas and at a party in her home, young Clara receives a Nutcracker doll as a Christmas present from her favourite uncle Drosselmeyer. Her brother Fritz breaks it but Drosselmeyer puts it back together again. All too soon it’s time for the guests to depart and Clara and Fritz are put to bed. Unable to sleep with the excitement, Clara goes downstairs to get her Nutcracker doll and falls asleep under the Christmas tree. The stroke of midnight sounds and the magic begins! With all of the time-honoured elements in place, Clara is swept along into a world of mice and soldiers, to the snowflake scene, on to the kingdom of the sweets and the delectable Sugar Plum Fairy. This timeless Christmas classic will enthrall all who see it.

TenderfootIn September 2012, 42 transition year students from 8 schools in South County Dublin signed on for their first day of TENDERFOOT, the Civic Theatre’s apprentice theatre programme. Transition year is all about experience - new experiences and new ways of learning. Apprenticeship is all about learning by doing. TENDERFOOT offers transition year students interested in theatre an opportunity to learn about all aspects of the art of theatre in a hands-on way. The plays in the TENDERFOOT programme are written, performed, produced and designed by the students under the guidance of their tutors. TENDERFOOT tutors are all working theatre professionals. The work in this programme is the work of young theatre artists - our TENDERFEET. We hope you enjoy their first tentative steps.TENDERFOOT is funded by The Civic Theatre, South Dublin County Arts Office and The Arts Council’s Young Ensemble Scheme.

Scorpion delivers a bang up to date commentary on the state of Ireland in the current climate.

The Legend of Luke KellyReturning from an 11 date tour of Germany with folk legends, The Dubliners, Chris Kavanagh will bring his acclaimed Legend of Luke Kelly show back to the Civic Theatre. Lead singer Chris bears a remarkable resemblance to Luke while his singing talent captures the depth and passion of the great man. He is joined onstage by the accomplished musicians that make up The Patriots. Over the past 10 years they have amazed audiences following powerful sell-out performances in prominent Irish venues with the regular attendance of the Kelly family. In 2009 to mark Luke’s 25th anniversary, Chris and co-writer (Hilary Kavanagh) composed a song entitled Voice of the People to celebrate his life.
