Principal’s Message

Dear Parents/ guardians,

In the last newsletter I communicated that a limb had

fallen from one of the gums on the school grounds.

We acted swiftly and unfortunately the tree needed to

be removed due to a white ant infestation.

The removal of trees is never a pleasant task and the

words of The Lorax were

ringing in my ears. "I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees”.

The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss is a light-hearted but cautionary tale with a critically important

message. If we do not collectively take responsibility for the stewardship of the

environment, then our own world will soon be like the one that the Lorax left behind.

Fortunately we have a wonderful community of parents who assisted to use the wood to

design an outside classroom. A huge thank you for giving up a Saturday to assist to

improve our school grounds. As a nice segue into being more environmentally aware I

would like to thank everyone for their patience with the Sentral parent portal. As you are

aware we sent home the Semester 1 reports via the parent portal on Sentral, we have

experienced a few teething problems, however resilience has shone through with

questions being asked and trouble-shooting taking place. We will be experts by the time Semester 2 reports are

communicated.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” The Lorax

I would like to remind parents to be vigilante when dropping students off in the morning and picking them up in the

afternoons. Please note the parking restriction signage on McCracken Street. Double parking is illegal and is a risk to

student safety. The crossing on McCracken and Epson roads are supervised by a traffic controller from 7.50am until

9.00am and from 2.55pm until 4.00pm. We do suggest that families who are able to walk or ride to school do so to

avoid the congestion.

Last Friday night we celebrated the Winter Solstice which is a wonderful annual

community event at Kensington Primary. Delicious wood fired pizzas were

created by many enthusiastic hands. Again a huge thank you to those of our

community who work tirelessly to support the school and the wider community.

Over the holidays there will be building works commenced, which will see the

hall completed with panelling, ceiling and painting undertaken. The staff toilets

will also be finalised.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank my dedicated staff and to our school community for their on-going

support. I wish everyone a safe and happy break. – Bridget

We would like to extend a big, warm thank you to our wonderful parent helpers this week. It is always great to have

you along and it is such a great way to get involved, the children always love having you in the kitchen and garden.

We love parent helpers in our program! In fact, you MAKE our program run - we could not do it without you! So if

you can spare a couple of hours on a Thursday morning to come and help out it is always greatly appreciated. During

the final week of term, we will be giving the kitchen a deep clean so if you are free to come along and help out you

would be most welcome!

Many thanks to all involved. Kate and the Grubbies Team

**********************************************

On Thursday the 20th of June Georgia’s class, 1D, had their second cooking and gardening session. The weather

wasn’t too great with rain setting in towards the middle of the session so we decided to set up a banquet to eat

indoors, which was a lot of fun.

The children all had a lovely time and had some great reflections to share.

‘I liked making the garlic bread when you had to spread the garlic butter and I liked cutting the bread.’ Oliver

‘I liked finding the eggs under some plants. It was funny.’ Tully

‘I liked cutting the onion. I got help from my dad.’ William

‘I liked cutting the olives. It was a hard job, but I did it. Brianna helped.’ Chloe

‘I liked chopping the zucchinis because it wasn’t hard and it wasn’t easy. It was just right.’ Saoirse

‘I liked planting the seeds. There were lots of choices of seeds.’ Charley

‘I liked finding worms because they were so good to hold.’ Annabell

‘I liked washing the dishes because it was fun. I got to scrub them.’ Brianna

‘I liked holding the chickens. It was soft and fluffy.’ Tommy

‘I liked chopping the garlic. There was a garlic crusher.’ Aleksander

‘I liked setting the tables in the library because I like to help.’ Kharla

‘I liked making the yum yum balls because I liked crushing the biscuits.’ Marcel

‘I liked tickling the white silky on the neck. I was calm.’ Elijah

‘I liked cutting the zucchini with a knife.’ Eddie

‘I liked balancing on the logs. It was fun and I found some worms.’ Miles

‘I liked to [at the chickens. She was really soft and I think she loved me because I was really gentle and she didn’t get

out of my hands.’ Ada

‘I liked making yum balls. My hands got sticky. I loved smashing the biscuits with a rolling pin.’ Eliza

‘I liked helping Kate because it was fun. And stirring the pasta was fun.’ Audrey

‘I liked chopping the carrot and peeling the carrot. I loved it. It was amazing!’ Emily

‘I liked stirring the Bolognese.’ Yasin

‘In the kitchen I liked making the yum yum balls because I got to lick my fingers.’

A big, warm thankyou to the parents (and grandparent!) who came in to help us out.

Strings Breakfast Concert

Enjoy a wonderful concert to start your last day of term!

8:30am in the Hall Friday 28th June. Followed by croissants

MMT News

On Sunday June 23rd six instrumental concerts were held in the KPS hall. Starting at 10am and finishing at 6pm there

were performances including piano, guitar, singing, drums, flute, violin, cello, string ensembles and the MMT rock

band.

Students performed with confidence and displayed all that they had learn't with their teachers in the last 6 months.

Some students had music exams on the Sunday as well as attending the concert which was a great effort.

There were many first time singers and piano players who all handled their nerves incredibly well and lots of very

proud parents. The Mid Year and End of Year MMT concerts are a great performance opportunity for students to not

only showcase their playing skills but to also watch their peers perform.

Across the day there were pieces performed all the way up to Grade 4 Exam level, world premieres of compositions

on the piano and drums, beginner students stepping on stage for the first time as well as students using excellent

performance etiquette by listening to others, clapping and remembering to bow.

Brooke would like to thank all students and parents for attending the day and she is looking forward to the End of

Year concert. 🙂
