Principal’s Message Transition morning was an opportunity to take a step into the future for some and a walk down memory lane for others. Our sixes spent the morning back in their prep room reminiscing and enjoying everything from gingerbread men

activities to sharing their favorite memory. One of our kids said that they couldn’t write anything because their strongest memory was a bit embarrassing; he used to walk into poles all the time. We both laughed as I explained that I had just had two preps in first aid for the same reason. We decided that some things never change. Congratulations to our

students for raising approximately $622 for the Royal Flying Doctors Service this week, while dressing up to show others what they would like to do ‘when they get older’. Education is in good hands if all the kids who dressed as teachers yesterday go on to follow their dream. We also had engineers, technicians, soccer players, movie stars, ballet dancers, writers and a whole gamut of professions; it was a pleasure to see the kids’ ideas. We wish Christian all the best as a police officer and Lana as one of our future teachers.

Congratulations to our Groovin’ Guitars students on their delightful concert last Tuesday. Working with professional musicians gives our kids a wonderful opportunity to get a real feel for rehearsing and performing. The program continues to grow as more kids get involved and realise how much fun it is to have this sense of personal achievement. No matter the level of skill, our Groovin’ Guitars staff member, Julia works to bring out the best in each child. We are lucky to work with them again next year so if you are interested please contact the school for more information. Thanks to our Coffee and Chat participants. We welcomed one new member of the community who took to it like ‘a duck to water’. We all enjoyed a lively get together with lots of questions, laughter and planning. Please don’t be scared that you will feel ‘out of place’ or won’t know anyone; we are a very friendly group. Join us for our first get together in 2016 on Wednesday February 10 in the staffroom. 2016 already? It’s getting closer! COLLECTION OF 2016 BOOKPACKS

If you child is in year 1 to 6 in 2016 their bookpack will be available for collection in the school hall tomorrow. Date Friday 4th December, 2015 Times 8.00am to 10.00am 2.30pm to 6.00pm Our official supplier is an Australian company, Maxim Office Group, bookpacks must be fully paid prior to collection. No payments can be taken in the school hall. When you collect the bookpack/s please let staff know if your child is left handed and requires left handed scissors and we will do a swap. If you have not as yet finalised your 2016 parent payment, please see the office staff urgently to arrange payment or to discuss a payment plan.

Student reports Please note that student reports will be sent home on Friday the 11

th of December. We provide a printed report to you

as parents and/or guardians about your child’s progress for semester 2. The report is a report to parents and we ask students not to open the envelope themselves. Please check your child’s school bag on this day. Included in the en-velope will be details about your child’s class placement next year. These details include your child’s 2016 home group teacher and room number. At times some students are absent on the day reports are distributed. In these circumstances there are a number of options we provide:

The report may be sent home with a sibling who is in attendance on the day. A family member can pick up the report after 3:30pm on that day or on the subsequent school days. The child will be given the report to take home on the next day they attend school. We can post the report to your normal residential address.

If you require your child’s report to be posted because they are not in attendance on December 11, please let your child’s teacher know, otherwise they will be placed in your child’s file until it can be collected. Alison Devereux Assistant Principal and Report Coordinator

The lost property cupboard is full to overflowing. Has your child lost an item of clothing, drink bottle etc? If so come and check out the lost property cupboard. All lost property will be disposed of at the end of term 4.



What another amazing year it has been for our year 6 students….Canberra, Debate Night and now Year 6 Presentation! It’s hard to believe there is just over a week to go. The Year 6 Presentation will be held on Thursday 10

th December at the Manor on High, High

Street Epping. All students have been actively involved and working extremely well together in preparation for the evening. This year the Footsteps Dance Company once again helped the students prepare for some of the dances. The students learnt their moves in record time. They look fabulous! The students enthusiastically organise their night. We have such talent amongst the year 6 classes, from choreographers to those who design the program. We even have a crew putting together a DVD of memories to share. We would like to congratulate the Year 6 class of 2015 for their teamwork, support and dedication to ensure this year’s Presentation will be a night to remember.



Mathematicians at work in 5-4

In 5-4, we have been developing our skills in using the four Operations — Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and

Division. To develop our understanding, we have set individual goals. We used

range of strategies and ICT tools to practise our goal. We LOVE maths in 5-4!



Transition Day for 1-15 On Friday it was whole school transition day. 1-15 went with the other year 1

students to a year 2 classroom to get a look at what happens in year 2.

Tomorrow we have a boys baseball tournament which will be held at the Softball Complex on Morang Drive, Mill Park and a girls

soccer tournament which will be held at Mill Park Secondary College (senior campus, The Lakes, Epping). Parents and friends are

most welcome to come along and support our students.

MCDONALD’S HOOP TIME SENIOR ALL STARS STATE FINALS 2015

Our ALL STAR Boys Basketball Squad attended the State Finals which were

held in Dandenong on Tuesday November 24th. Mr Scanu, Mrs Dimitrovski

and Mrs Humphreys left school with 8 very excited boys ready to give it their

all and entering the unknown. There were 20 boys teams left in the State and

there was 4 pools set up with 5 teams in each. We were in pool 1. We played

games against St Gabriel’s,

Kent Park P.S., Mooroolbark

East P.S. and St Francis Xavier

P.S. After our four games we

were winless but not because

of our endeavour. This meant

we had to play a lower placed

team from pool 4 in a

consolation final against St

Anne’s which we won 16-10. We

would not have made it to the

State finals without the coaching

of Mr Dominic Bruno who

coached the boys all the way

from our District day through to

Divisional and then onto

Regional. Joshua Aldridge was

our scorer on the day and did an

awesome job. To the many

parents who made the special

trip to Dandenong, their support

and cheering all day was a huge

bonus for us. Finally to our special group of boys who tried hard and on the day and

tried their best. We finished around 15th in the State and the boys should be

extremely proud of themselves.

PARENT FORUM Monday 15 February 2016 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Today’s parents can be overly concerned for their children. We hear terms like ‘helicopter parents’ in the press, referring to those overly anxious parents who probably are the ones who still carry their children’s school bags. Then there are the ‘too good’ parents who don’t want their children to miss out or experience disappointment and just do too much for their children. This interactive workshop will encourage parents to build their children’s resilience and help their children develop skills in social competence, problem solving, independence and optimism. The research informs us that a resilient child is one that is socially competent, can problem solve, and has the ability to see a difficulty as a problem that can be worked on, overcome, changed, endured, or resolved in some way; has good self-esteem and autonomy which allows the child to cope successfully with challenges; and is hopeful and optimistic about what tomorrow has in store for them. Chris’ workshop on Building Resilience in Children is a two hour interactive workshop for parents/carers will leave you reflecting on your parenting practices. It will encourage you not ‘to do’ for your child what they can do for themselves. As a trained social worker and teacher, Chris has extensive experience in working directly with children and adolescents and supporting staff. Chris has facilitated many successful professional development sessions for teachers and parents within the private and public sectors on a range of topics from staff and student welfare to organisational health issues. Chris is also actively involved in the tertiary sector, teaching students in Master of Social Work, Master of Teaching and the Master of Education (Student Wellbeing) courses.
