PresiDent’s PEn OUT & ABOUt

By Caloundra Chamber Of Commerce President, Michael shadforth

As a Chamber we have continued to grow our membership and provide value added services and networking events that have been very well received. Our Caloundra Street Fair

continues to grow in terms of demand by stall holders and the number of people who visit each week. Growing brand Caloundra is always front of mind and I am pleased to say that the new Chamber branding and the new Caloundra Street Fair television commercial have both been well received.

This year we delivered some amazing speakers for our Better Business Breakfasts such as David Hall, CEO of Jetstar and Campbell Newman, former Premier of QLD. Our Smart Lunch Club events and networking evenings have also received great feedback from our members who appreciate the opportunity to learn and meet new people.

There is still a lot to do over the coming years and the Caloundra CBD Project will help us to identify opportunities that will continue to make Caloundra shine. The new infrastructure that is being created all around us or that is planned for the region over the coming decades is truly exciting. The hospital will be complete and operational in less than 12 months, the expansion to the airport should soon be underway, the Maroochydore CBD has started in earnest, the Kawana Health Hub is going up before our eyes and a new city “Aura” is about to be born.

Located just to the south of Caloundra, Aura is a $5 billion project and Stockland, who are the developers, expect the project to take around three decades to be complete and ultimately be home to 50,000 people. This green field site has been planned to include large parks, lots of public space and cycle ways as well as shopping centres, sport and recreational facilities, schools and other educational facilities and is expected to create 20,000 new jobs on the Sunshine Coast. Being so close to Caloundra, we are certain to benefit from this development.

On a final note I would like to thank Leanne and her Chamber team for all of their hard work throughout the year. They do an amazing job and we could not achieve all that we do for our members without them. On behalf of the whole committee I would like to wish all of our members a safe and happy festive season and a truly successful 2016.

As Christmas approaches it is a great time to take stock and look at what has been achieved for the year and to reflect on the year that was.

Gazing out to the ocean as it shimmers under the first rays of morning light, it is easy to see why so many Caloundra operators are more than happy to call the beach their office.

As summer kicks into full gear, so too, do the number of people seeking out water-based adventures. Although the

holiday season means long, hot 12-hour days for Golden Beach Hire managers Carl Trocki and Nicky Dunshea, it is the time of year when they thrive.

The couple, who have a diverse background of teaching and personal training respectively, took over management of the establishment that has been a fixture of Golden Beach five years ago as a form of semi-retirement plan.

While it has meant being able to take time off in the winter months, the approaching summer will see them hire equipment to as many as 150 people on a pristine day.

“Sometimes we will work for a month straight throughout the peak season and we definitely have our long days and heavy periods, but it’s just really nice dealing with people who really want to be there,” he said.

Golden Beach Hire is one of the few places left in south-east Queensland that offers catamaran hire, something Carl said he would never let go of despite skyrocketing insurance prices. But stand up paddle boarding was very much on

trend and one of the most popular activities to experience on the Pumicestone Passage on a calm day.

“Stand up paddle boarding has definitely changed the business on the beach because it’s very popular and everyone can do it,” Carl said. “It’s new and interesting and physically it’s better for your back and a full body work out compared to kayaking, where your legs can turn to jelly through lack of use. “When we got here five years ago we had one stand up paddleboard and now we have 17 or so.

“You just have to look out on the passage on a calm day to how many people are out there enjoying this inexpensive activity in a safe environment and in an eco-friendly manner.”

Carl said along with word of mouth, the weather and the magnetic pull the Pumicestone Passage has on tourists did the majority of the advertising for their business.

“It’s Caloundra’s best resource and it offers a unique proximity to Bribie Island which is so ecologically sensitive you can’t even 4WD on the northern end. Being on there is like going back 200 years because there’s only kangaroos and a few people that have gone over on paddle

craft or by motorboat,” he said. “If the waterway isn’t kept, it would heavily impact tourism around us. It’s a point of difference we have to everywhere else.”

While Carl and Nicky can bank on business picking up around Father’s Day every year and starting to drop off the following Mother’s Day, no matter what time of year, you will always find Ben “Silky” Silk on the Dicky Beach sand.

Growing up on Bell Street, near beach access 263, the former Australian surfing champion came full circle two years ago when he was granted one of the Sunshine Coast Council’s latest forms of outdoor business permits.

“I’ve surfed this break and this beach break growing up and now I get paid to teach kids how to do it, it’s awesome,” he said. “I wouldn’t live anywhere else. I just love Caloundra and when my dad asks me why I love to travel so much, I say it’s because when you come back, you realise just how good we’ve got it here.”

Ben travelled extensively throughout his competitive surfing career, but then decided to call it quits on the circuit and worked in the surf industry around the globe. He met his wife, Patricia, while teaching her to surf overseas and

the couple moved back to the Sunshine Coast, where Ben got “a real job” and worked as a carpenter for 10 years. But his heart was always in surfing and his passion once again drove him back to the surf.

“I felt I was always second-guessing myself in all of my other jobs but with this, I know what I’m doing,” he said.

Ben teaches kids as young as five surf safety and the skills they need to fuel their passion for surfing, but he has also taught a gentleman in his early 70s how to catch his first break when he decided to take up the sport as a hobby in his retirement.

The year-round surf school also offers Go Gurfers specifically for women and hosts the increasingly popular Weet-Bix SurfGroms programs for five to 12-year-olds in the school holidays.

“People ask me why I don’t grow and expand, but the simple reason is that I love teaching smaller groups,” he said. “I’m learning the business as I go and growing as I go and I’ve always believed in quality coaching rather

than numbers.”

Ben also recently re-entered the competitive realm of surfing and the 41-year-old took out the Over 40s HIF Queensland titles and also made it to the quarter finals of the Australian titles after entering for the first time since 1996.

There is no doubt, consumers are becoming increasingly conscious of what they put into their bodies and

there is no shortage of savvy business people ready to give them what they want.

Michelle Evans, co-owner of Donut Boyz Caloundra and long-time 4 Ingredients marketer, said there was a real trend towards providing fresh, handmade food containing locally-sourced produce.

“Why that has been difficult in the past is because it was hard to source the volume needed and it was hard to get a steady and consistent supply,” Michelle said. “But with more people like us doing it in a boutique way, producing quality with an aim to sell out each day, this influences the habits of the locals and they can get used to demanding fresh and handmade first rate products.”

Donut Boyz Caloundra, celebrated across social media with the #DB4551, opened its doors in October and has only had two days where the Sold Out pink marker sign hasn’t adorned its front door before the close of business. Clearly onto a good thing, Michelle said it was their

dedication to hand making every aspect of their mouth-watering donuts that made them stand out from the pack.

“The heart and soul of the product is that everything is sourced from local farms,” she said.

“I am so excited that we have access to award-winning, two-hatted pastry chef Tony Kelly.

“Everyone told him that he couldn’t use a brioche pastry to make a donut, but he told them they were wrong. It takes him two days to make the brioche and we use Sunshine Coast free range eggs and Maleny Dairies milk. He is the best at making what we call everyday food really exciting and this is something you can’t replicate in your kitchen at home.”

Every aspect of each donut, from the cream and custard to the marshmallows and rocky road, is handmade in Maroochydore and delivered to the Caloundra store within the hour.

The only thing that comes from a packet is the Belgian chocolate. As every donut is cut by hand, each one is unique. Boasting exotic flavours like red velvet frosted with butter cream and crushed shortbread and white chocolate custard with raspberry glaze, rocky road and raspberry coulis injectable, it is little wonder that Donut Boyz has made a huge splash in town.

Next door, a plaque adorning the wall of Melon Head Juice Bar, reads “We love food that hugs you from the inside.” Owners Mel and Celeste Elliott opened their doors 10 months ago following a casual conversation about their mutual desire to open a fresh juice bar. Celeste said with Caloundra attracting a host of natural food alternative venues, their timing could not have been better.

“I didn’t know what to expect and I’ve found that I have evolved to cater for what the people want,” she said.

Celeste said they hit upon a winner when they began offering acai bowls. The Brazilian super food draws morning crowds to Melon Head, who jazz up the popular dish spectacularly by serving the delectably healthy treat in a hollowed out coconut or pineapple. Celeste said the venue would offer Caloundra’s first custom-made acai bar before the end of December.

Melon Head source produce from the Caloundra Street Fair, which is right on their doorstep every Sunday, and the rest is hand-picked by Celeste from the Rocklea Markets.

“I will only buy firsts and never seconds or thirds because I know you can taste the difference,” she said. “I am one of those people who lift the lid off every box to make sure I am buying the best.”

Far from being a simple juice bar, Melon Head offers gluten free muesli and all menu offerings can be made dairy free or vegan if required. Among the popular offerings are the selection of amazing handmade RAWR slices, which are as healthy as it gets while still managing to look a little bit naughty.

“I think we are moving towards a healthier Caloundra and it’s a good change, especially for the kids,” she said. “I had takeaway food all the time but it really makes me smile when I hear kids coming in saying they want an acai bowl, it’s so good to see kids eating healthily. “I guess the parents are changing and in turn they are changing their kids.”

As an amalgamated regional council, the Sunshine Coast is a united front with all its future focused economic

goals - and I’m all for that. A by-product of this regionalisation however is the loss of individuality and uniqueness that encapsulates the spirit of Caloundra. To me, this is a great loss.

Not much has yet been said about this, but on August 1, 2017 the Sunshine Coast will officially celebrate its 50-year anniversary. It was on this date in 1967 that the name “Sunshine Coast” was gazetted as the new name for our region loosely known to all at the time as the Near North Coast. What many new residents to Caloundra may not be aware of is that Caloundra has a history far richer than that of its coastal neighbours to the north.

Picture way back to 1885 when one Nathaniel Alder’s house in Shelly Beach was transformed into Caloundra’s first hotel. This was closely followed in 1888 by Caloundra’s first guesthouse “Sea Glint” which sat proudly on a ridge overlooking what is our present day Moffat Beach. The S.S. Dicky, whose remnants have only just recently been removed, wasn’t even shipwrecked until 1893. No wonder we’re good at tourism, we’ve been at it for 130 years!

Speeding ahead to 1896 and there were now seven dwellings in Caloundra when the first of two lighthouses was built. A year later, the

North West Shipping Channel was declared the safest access to Moreton Bay giving us the amazing vistas we enjoy today of mega ships coming right up to our unspoilt shoreline. Back then, Caloundra would never have been considered poor man’s Noosa, it was the other way around. Wealthy farmers in the district chose Caloundra as the location for their holidays and beach houses. It was quite the place to be.

Some sixteen years later, enough people were calling our greater area home to warrant its independence as a local government with Landsborough Shire Council holding its first meeting on 22 February 1912. So popular was this haven by the sea that in 1917, Robert Bulcock Jnr. commenced subdivision of the Bulcock Estate and hence, Caloundra as a destination was born.

Putting things into perspective, yes it’s important that we celebrate the 50 years of the Sunshine Coast, but what is being said about the centenary of Caloundra in the very same year? I’m not sure what has happened to our identity as we move toward this milestone but somewhere along the line it seems to have been diluted.

As the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce, we have started having these conversations. Why? Because the history of a community defines the

character and the authenticity of a town that so often drives visitation and economic benefit. We’ve started looking at the cultural elements that make Caloundra unique and how we can translate these attributes into a story that attracts people to our destination. Of course it’s important that we contribute to the regional narrative but the best way to promote the Sunshine Coast is to add a point of difference that complements the overall message told.

In 1946, Mr Roy Henzell Sr. acquired 960ha of land that is now known to us all as Golden Beach and Pelican Waters. His vision effectively resulted in doubling the urban footprint of the Caloundra we know today. In the mid 1960s, the construction of the Nicklin Way provided the all important link between Caloundra and the northern beaches of the Sunshine Coast that now unites us all as a region.

OPiniOn

Over recent times, there’s been a general feeling throughout our local community that Caloundra has lost some if its own unique identity. By Bill Darby MBA MAICD, Caloundra Tourism Chair

OPiniOn

In the years since, Caloundra has experienced periods of staggering growth followed by disappointing periods of stagnation. Urban decay is evident in some of our retail precincts. It’s also fair to say that the homogenisation that’s flowed on from regional amalgamation doesn’t have Caloundra shining as a beacon of economic and social success moving into its centenary.

Caloundra has a history far richer than that of its coastal neighbours to the north

I for one would like to see Caloundra as the leading light of the Sunshine Coast come 2017 – the centenary of our town centre. We have the geographic advantage of six amazing beaches, a deep history and rich surfing culture and a proximity to the Coast’s biggest and best infrastructure projects. There’s much to celebrate.

What was once a shell of a garage has been transformed into a dream man cave completed with comfy

couches, coffee tables made from pallets, a pool table, a guitar for jamming and of course, Matt and business partner Christen McGarry’s signature liquid gold.

Although still in its infancy, the brewing company embodies from its very grassroots its desire to be more than just a business that produces quality beer. They are about the culture. “Our motto is Brewing Good Times,” Matt explains. The duo sure did that when they launched their first brew, known for now as the “Session Ale”, in October to great fanfare.

The Ale, yet to be given its character name, was introduced to the Coast in a series of mini-festivals complete with live music at venues from Caloundra to Noosa.

Christen said they had been overwhelmed by the way the Sunshine Coast community had embraced their desire to brew craft beers in the region. They had chosen to supply their product to independent venues who shared

their passion for boosting the local scene, which has been booming of late. Among them are Drift Bar, Good Bar, Old Sol, Upstairs, Village Bicycle, Nook and Cranny and Taps Mooloolaba.

Matt, a former project manager, and Christen, a former school teacher, threw in their own jobs and took up positions at Caloundra’s Drift Bar to free up time for them to dream big for their company.

But like the realists they are, they have decided to start small and build organically from the ground up. Complete novices to brewing when they first discovered craft beers two years ago, Christen took on the role of devising the brew recipes through extensive research and trial and error. Christen said they had decided to focus solely on one beer at a time to achieve their perfect blend.

“By doing one beer at a time, we can immerse ourselves in that beer style and make it a good example of what it should be,” he said. “From the very outset we had brainstormed and planned what flavours we wanted to capture in the brew.

“Our first few results we have called Average Ale, but that was probably being kind. “But we persevered and had no shortage of friends who wanted to be our taste testers.”

Your Mates Session Ale is made with local, fresh ingredients and has hints of mango and a subtle fruity hop aroma that captivates everyone from the novice craft beer drinker to the seasoned.

Matt worked hard on familiarising himself with the laws and regulations surrounding their new trade to ensure they dotted their i’s and crossed their t’s. “We had to teach ourselves everything,” he said.

“It was a really good learning curve for both of us.” When the Allen St shed became available at a good price, the pair jumped on to it and quickly transformed it to reflect their business ethos.

Our motto is Brewing Good Times

They were then able to move their brewing efforts from the garage of their former Roderick Street home to the shed with their own 50-litre system.

Now, with seven establishments stocking their beer and the number on the rise, they have contracted their brewing to Baffle Beer Brewery. “We are going through 10 to 15, 50-litre kegs a week which is a significant investment when you are waiting around seven weeks to see any return,” Matt said. “It’s no secret that we are a few years behind Brisbane and several years behind Sydney and Melbourne when it comes to craft beers, but we thought the timing was right and the Coast was ready for something like this.

“I have mates that have only ever had XXXX and two years later these guys don’t want that, and they are really into it because once you taste a craft beer, you can’t go back or you’re pretty disappointed.”

Christen said they were already preparing to begin the creation process for their second beer, a dark beer, which they hoped to release by next winter.

“The value of money is so important to people they want to know they are receiving a quality product and they want to know where the

product is coming from,” he said. “With us, it’s all done right here. “Every week we have those moments where we feel like everything has just made sense as long as we keep getting those moments, we know we are on the right track. “Seeing people drinking our beer at Drift, the best feedback you could possibly get is when they come back for another.”

Your Mates and Drift Bar will host the next Craft Club afternoon on Sunday, December 6.

For more information on how to secure your spot at the informal brewing gathering, which includes the chance to learn brewing secrets from Baffle Beer Brewery owner Bert Kangler, visit the Your Mates Brewing Company Facebook page.

Beer is made from these four primary ingredients:

grain - mostly malted barley but also other grains.

hops - grown in many different varieties. This is what adds fruity and other flavours to a brew.

yeast - responsible for fermentation; based on style-specific strains.

Water - accounts for up to 95% of beer’s content.

sitting proud at the top of Caloundra, on the corner of Bulcock street and dingle Ave, is a bright and beautiful testament to the history and culture of Caloundra.

Previously a dull and uninspiring brick wall tagged with graffiti, now a fresh, and colourful graphic history of elements and

icons that are synonymous with Caloundra.

Graphic designer and artist Steven Bordonaro and artist Cassie Munson spent a number of weeks bringing the wall to life with a symbolic mural that takes pride of place at the top of town.

Steven is clearly passionate about Caloundra. “The inspiration for this mural came from the love of this beautiful town and wanting to share, with the local community and tourists that visit here, what Caloundra has to offer.

“With links to the past and present, I wanted to create a colourful and vibrant piece that is not offensive and brings a smile to all ages. It’s definitely a ‘happy’ wall. To me, it has been a ‘dream-come-true’ wall.

“I grew up only 150 metres down from the wall at Kings Beach and would pass the wall every day, always thinking it would be a fantastic canvas for public art. I was thrilled when the Caloundra CBD Taskforce decided to make this a public art project with the intention to activate the walk between Bulcock Street and Kings Beach, provide some way finding and add to the attraction of the CBD.”

Working your way along the eye catching mural, one can pick out the icons and symbols that are part and parcel of Caloundra. You will notice Pa and Ma Bendall (Pa wore a patch over his eye, and that is why the eye is not shown), kids on Kings Beach building sandcastles, a pandanus palm and the boardwalk between Kings Beach and Happy Valley. BUsiness tO THE RESCUE

Once your group is registered, it’s all about recruiting members to the cause and watching your donations tally rise. In 2014, Club Red donors made 205,051 donations, around 60,000 more than the previous year. That equated to 16% of all donations.

Red25 is not solely about competing to win challenges, but instead about uniting to give a gift that is worth more than any financial donation. “One in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime – whether for cancer, illness, surgery or other medical conditions – but only one in 30 donates,” Rebecca said.

If you want to get started or add your donation to the group tally visit the Red Cross mobile donor centre, which can be found at the Stockland Caloundra Shopping Centre on Bowman Road for one week every month, usually including a Saturday.

it took nine perfect strangers to save Rose Callander’s life.

She will never know who they are and they will never know the magnitude of their gift. But the fact they rolled up their

sleeves to give blood was the difference between life and death for the owner of Charly Angelz Hair & Beauty.

Rose was given a 20% chance of survival even with enough blood in stock to keep her going during emergency surgery to find the cause of an aneurism that had caused extensive internal bleeding. Without it, she would not have stood a chance.

Rose said almost a year on, it was still hard to comprehend what she had been through.

She had woken with back pain in the middle of the night and thought it was wind, so treated it with a heat bag and hot water.

“It progressively got worse,” she said. “Then my partner Gavin, one night, woke up at 2 am to find me collapsed in extreme pain, so he took me to the emergency department.”

Within half an hour, Rose had undergone an MRI scan where they discovered she was suffering from serious internal bleeding. They found four litres of blood in her torso and suspected a ruptured spleen. Rose was immediately transported to Nambour Hospital for emergency surgery.

“The doctors told me they were squeezing bags of blood into me until they found out what had happened, because it wasn’t my spleen that had ruptured after all,” she recalled. “They cut me right down the front to find out what it was and it turned out to be an artery that fed into the stomach, but fortunately there are several that do that, so they could just clamp it.”

The surgical team used 27 units of blood to keep Rose alive that day – the equivalent of nine blood donations.

Rose spent three days in the intensive care unit and another week in the hospital before beginning her long road to recovery. Her skilled and reliable staff meant the salon continued to operate in her absence, allowing her the much-needed time to heal. Having only recently returned back to work full time in her Minchinton Street salon, Rose is a strong advocate for blood donations.

She is encouraging businesses to band together and join Australian Red Cross’s Red25 program, which has a target of collecting 25% of all blood donations needed by Australia.

Rebecca Ind, the Community Relations Officer from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, said a number of Caloundra businesses had already joined the campaign, including the Caloundra and Currimundi Zarraffa’s Coffee outlets, the Pelican Waters, Caloundra and Currimundi Woolworths stores, Steps Group Australia and the 223 Squadron AAF Cadets Caloundra.

“The greater Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service ran a challenge during September and October and the staff at the Caloundra Hospital have contributed 33 donations and helped to save the lives of more than 99 patients in need,” Rebecca said. “We are on the lookout for more local businesses to help us grow Red25 in the Caloundra area.”

Any group or organisation of any size, anywhere in Australia, can register a Red25 group.

CALOUnDrA STREET FAIR

After managing holiday resorts in Vanuatu as well as in Australia, they were looking for a tree-change to

alleviate the grind and the constant 24/7 demands of working in hospitality. David, an ex-chef and Nola, who has a background in visual arts, make a dynamic, creative team. With three children they were used to multi-tasking but knew it was time to make a change – a peaceful change.

“We work with nature to create beautiful kokedama; roots are wrapped in a whole lot of goodness and become as much the feature as the plant itself ” explains Nola.

“We tap into the raw energy of nature, allowing our creativity to organically evolve. We see again what is there, redefine the focus and celebrate beauty.”

Walking towards their stall at the Caloundra Street Fair, you are immediately drawn into an inviting, green space, of hanging plants and herbs. The kokedama are made by hand with the finest of materials to nurture the plant to be its very best.

The process involves slightly trimming the plant roots (likened to Bonsai) and encasing the roots in a nutrient rich mud ball of peat moss, quality potting mix and slow release fertilizer. The root ball is gently encased in a

good layer of sphagnum moss which helps keep the roots cool and moist. Sometimes they use paperbark and other goodies from the forest floor. The entire ball is wrapped in a good quality twine that will stand the test of time.

“We choose beautiful and inspiring plants and the finest of materials to nurture the plant at its very best” explains Nola.

So if you are hard pressed to find that perfect Christmas present this holiday season, turn to living art and tick one more task off your shopping list.

david and nola are a husband and wife team, who have embraced an ancient Japanese art-form, Kokedama. “Koke” meaning moss and “dama” meaning ball is a Japanese string garden where balls of nutrient rich soil are gently formed around the plant roots, then bound in moss and string to create dangling objects of beauty.

ENTANgLE LIvIng ARt

hoW to Care for your KoKedamaA common cause of death of the potted plant is over watering. Not so with your Kokedama. It is easy to know when your plant needs a drink – just have a little squeeze of the ball. When it is dry to the touch and is lighter in weight, simply submerge the entire ball in a bucket of water. Leave it there for a little while. Give the ball a little squeeze under the water to release the air bubbles. This way you can be assured that the water is reaching the roots and with a good soaking your plant will not need watering as often.

Established 28 years ago, Mar Gra has become synonymous with quality and flexibility when it comes to creating unique stone masterpieces. Abbreviated from the words marble and granite, the company’s founders Graziano and eufrasia Gagliardo relocated their business to Caloundra in 1990 and haven’t looked back.

Here, Caloundra Buzz finds out how they have driven such tremendous growth in their specialty.

Why did you choose to base yourself in Caloundra? It was the closest town to Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast. The Moffat Beach estate had the perfect land set up for the use at the time. Caloundra is a very pretty area with wonderful beaches and is a nice place to live. We can service the whole Coast and our staff travel to where the jobs are. Plus Mr Gagliardo didn’t want to be in a city, he preferred this lifestyle.

how many staff were with the business at its inception and how many are with you now? There are over 14 staff members now. Initially it was only a handful of staff. The amount of staff fluctuates during the year and depends on the workload.

What is the most in demand product at the moment and why? Natural stones! We are direct importers of natural stones like granite, marble, travertine and onyx. We have a fantastic array of materials and thousands of square metres of materials. Because our clients can see the stone in full slabs they can appreciate all the beauty of natural stones and select the colours to suit their home or projects.

How do you find and secure sources for your stone products? Mr Gagliardo has had a very long lasting relationship with our stone suppliers in Italy. We hand select our products once a year and also trust our suppliers to select for us only the best stone when we can’t go overseas.

Where are some of the countries you source your products from? Our stone is all cut and polished in slab format in Italy. The actual materials are from all over the world; Italy, the Americas (north, south and central), Canada, South Africa, North Africa, of course all around Europe, Russia and India.

Where is the stone transformed into the custom pieces for your clients? We process the stone slab into finished products in our factory on our premises.

A CUT AbOve tHe Rest

What is one of the most memorable jobs you have worked on? Every job is important for us from the private kitchen to the unit developments. The company has done a lot of work for celebrities that we can’t mention… Some of the highlights include Jamie Oliver’s restaurant in Brisbane, a great majority of the resorts in North Queensland (the staff loved working there), a luxury villa in Vanuatu and a fit-out of a penthouse in Russia. Award winning fit outs in Brisbane include building entries, office and retail spaces, apartment buildings on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane.

What do you see for the future of the construction and manufacturing industry in Caloundra? Caloundra offers a lot of room for improvement. With substantial refurbishment and now the creation of Aura could see the Sunshine Coast finally giving Caloundra the reputation and recognition it deserves.

how would you describe the sunshine Coast’s manufacturing industry? It has the potential to expand with the right investment from the government and private sector, which would develop employment opportunities and attract more families.

What do you think the benefits are of working from Caloundra? Caloundra is a more relaxed place to work compared to the larger cities. It offers the staff a more balanced lifestyle because of its vicinity to beaches and schools etc.
