increased by 12.53
percent, from 219,615 metric
tons in the fourth quarter of
2016 to 249,138 metric tons
in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Seventy six percent
of palay produced in this
province are harvested from
irrigated farms, which in-
creased by 11.25 percent to
the first ever Quarterly
Newsletter published in all
PSA Bicol Region’s
Provinces, the CSM
successfully released its
four (4) quarterly issues
for 2017, coming up with
templates and models of
what and how a
newsletter should contain
and look like.
While keeping
true to the “75% statistics
and civil registration
matters” contents’
requirement, the CSM
explored to add the stories
on the corporate social
responsibility activities of
the office, like mangrove
planting, feeding and gift
giving for students and
inmates, lunch-dates with
the elderly, etc. This
stories even made CSM+
AMDG more colorful,
while keeping the readers

producing in the Bicol
Region in the fourth quarter
of 2017 where 52 percent
of the entire region’s palay
production came. The other
48 percent of palay pro-
duction came from the
other five provinces with
Masbate sharing13.33
percent of production.
CORN PRODUCTION
Total corn pro-
duction in Camarines Sur
dropped by 4.86 percent to
30,818 metric tons in the
fourth quarter of 2017
compared with the 32,394
metric tons produced in
same period last year. The
decrease in harvested corn
area was the cause of the
decline in corn production.
By crop type,
white corn production was
pegged at 4,876 metric
tons in the fourth quarter of
2017. This is 10.48 percent
higher than the same quar-
ter of 2016 production of
5,447 metric tons.
Likewise, yellow corn
production was down by
3.73 percent with 25,942
metric tons produced in the
fourth quarter of 2017
compared with the 2016
fourth quarter’s production
of 26,947 metric tons.
Camarines Sur is
also the top corn producer
in Bicol region. Sixty four
percent of 48,114 metric
tons produced in the Bicol
Region came from
Camarines Sur. The other
36 percent of corn
production in the region
came from the other
provinces with Albay
sharing 26.15 percent.
T he average monthly
retail price of special
rice decreased in the
fourth quarter of 2017. The
average monthly retail price
of special rice was posted at
P43.60/kg in October 2017,
2.24 percent lower than the average retail price during
the same month in 2016. In
November 2017, the
average monthly retail
price of special rice was
posted at P42.65/kg, 4.37
percent lower than the
average retail price in
November 2016. Similarly,
the average monthly price
went down to P42.60/kg in
December 2017, lower by
4.48 percent than in
December 2016.
The average
monthly retail price of
premium rice was lower in
the fourth quarter of 2017
compared with the price
during the same period in
2016. The average
monthly retail price of premium rice was posted
at P40.60/kg in October
2017, higher by 0.05
percent compared with the
price during the same
month in 2017. However,
the price was lower by
1.97 percent and 4.16
percent in November and
December 2017,
respectively.

CAM SUR FISH PRODUCTION DECREASES BY 14.80 PERCENT IN 4TH QUARTER 2017
T he results of the fourth quarter 2017 Fisheries Production
Survey (FPS) in Camarines Sur revealed that the fisheries production in the province decreased to 14,070.96 metric tons this fourth quarter 2017 from 16,516.52 metric tons, or
14.80 percent during the same quarter last year.
Among the
Fisheries Subsectors covered by the QFS, Aquaculture subsector registered the biggest growth this quarter with 43.33 percent increase in

production as compared to the same quarter of last year. From 3,687.33 met-ric tons during the same quarter of 2016, Aquacul-ture production yielded 5,285.22 metric tons this year contributing 37.56 percent to the total fisher-ies production in the prov-ince.
Conversely, the
total Commercial Fisheries Production in the province declined by 28.29 percent as compared to the same quarter last year. From a production of 5,558.20 metric tons last year, the Commercial Fisheries Production decreased to
3,985.35 metric tons for the fourth quarter of 2017.
On the other hand, the total Municipal Fisheries Production in Camarines Sur registered a huge de-crease of 33.97 percent for the fourth quarter of 2017 as compared to the same quarter of 2016. From 7,270.99 metric tons recorded during the same quarter of 2016, the Municipal Fisheries Production decreased by 2,470.60 metric tons for the Fourth Quarter of 2017 registering only 4,800.39 metric tons in production.

lower by 4.21 percent than
in the same month in 2016.
Similarly, the average retail
price or regular- milled rice
decreased by 4.30 percent
in December 2017
compared with December
2016.
The average
monthly retail price of corn
grits was higher in October
to December 2017 than in
2016. The retail price of
corn grits was posted at
P29.40/kg in October to December 2017. This was
higher by 2.80 percent than
in October 2016, by 2.91
percent in November 2016,
and by 2.80 percent in
December 2016.

P SA Camarines Sur successfully celebrated this
year’s Civil Registration Month (CRM) with the
theme “#napapanahongCRVS”. This year’s
theme stresses the importance of having a correct
and accurate vital statistics, promote awareness on
the importance of civil registration and to encourage
every Filipinos to have their vital events registered.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No,
682 series of 1992, issued by President Corazon
Aquino on January 28, 1991, the month of February is
celebrated as Civil Registration Month throughout the
Philippines.
For this year, PSA Camarines Sur in
partnership with the Local Civil Registry Offices
(LCROs) with the Local Government Units (LGUs)
conducted several activities which includes Poster
Making Contests, Mass Weddings, Mobile
Registrations and display of streamers.
CSS Clemente S. Manaog was the guest
speaker in seven (7) LGU-sponsored Mass Weddings
in some municipalities of Camarines Sur. A total of
364 couples were wedded in the Mass Weddings
celebrated in the municipalities of Canaman, Goa,
Pamplona, Sagñay, San Fernando, San Jose, and
Tigaon.
CSS Manaog also served as the guest
speaker on the mobile registration held on February
27, 2018 at Barangay Pinamihagan, Lagonoy,
Camarines Sur. He talked about the importance of
Civil Registration, accurate registration of vital events
and entertained questions regarding problems on birth
certificate. He also joined in the awarding of the
registered Certificate of Live Birth together with
Lagonoy Municipal Civil Registrar, MCR Nancy B.
Gagni, and Hon. Henry Bigtas, Municipal Kagawad of
Lagonoy, Camarines Sur. A total of one hundred
eighty-nine (189) availed the registration and
served during the said activity.
One of the highlights of the celebration
was the First-ever Short Film Making Competition
spearheaded by the Local Government Unit
(LGU) Tigaon, thru its Municipal Civil Registry
Office (MCRO), in partnership with PSA CamSur
on February 21, 2018. Five schools submitted
their entries, which conveys and
emphasize the importance of Civil
Registration.
Thirty-seven (37) National
and Local Government agencies, such
as Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Metro
Naga Water District and Landbank
showed their support and participation in the celebration by
displaying CRM streamers in the vicinity of their office during the
whole month of February 2018, which greatly helps in raising public
awareness in the importance of Civil Registration.

January 2018. Although it
was highest at 6.8 percent
in September 2017, it
declined to 5.3 percent in
October 2017 and slightly
increased to 5.4 percent in

T he 2018 National Women’s Month celebrated with the theme “We Make Change Work for Women” which
highlights the empowerment of women as active contributors in the change and development of the community.
In support to the celebration, PSA CamSur organized several activities for the whole month of March 2018.
The women of PSA CamSur were also given a lecture and
hands-on training on Hair and Make-up on March 21, 2018, led by the
two (2) fantastic trainers/
male-up artist, Mr. Paulo
Enriquez and Mr. Nolito
Hernandez of Kolping Society.
The trainers presented the
different hair and makeup
styles for different shapes of
face. They also showed the
step-by-step make-up
procedure that is suitable for
working women.
Ms. Aida B. San Gabriel of
Kolping Society served as the trainer
during the Training on Basic Dress
Making on March 23, 2018. She
tackled about the basic concept on
Dress Making and taught the PSA
employees how to take and compute
measurements for different types of
dress. The participants also
experienced how to sew.

also taught the participants how to use the fire extinguishers. A fire drill was conducted after the training, and the per-
sonnel also experienced to put out a real fire using the fire extinguishers

Sexual Orientation,
Gender Identity and
Gender Expressions
(SOGIE) to give awareness

T he Philippine Statistics Authority Camarines Sur is committed to take
responsibility for the impact of its activities to stakeholders, communities, and environment through its corporate social responsibility program, such program is gift giving activity. On February 13, 2018, the PSA personnel surprised the elderly residing at Villa Marillac Home for the Aged, by giving them a balloon and chocolates in time for the celebration of the Valentine’s Day. Sumptuous meal were also served to the lolas. On March 28, 2018, the PSA Provincial Office once again visited the lolas for the conduct of a feeding and gift giving. The activity is conduct-ed through the collective efforts of the PSA employees, who contributed their own resources to purchase the gifts for them.
