About us
Cambridge Broadband Networks Ltd (CBNL) is the global leader in millimetre wave (mmWave) fixed wireless access (FWA) and backhaul solutions. We help network operators to deliver fibre-like connectivity to customers at a fraction of the cost of building or leasing a fibre network. In fact we work with 9 of the world’s top 15 largest operators. CBNL has led the industry through its early commercialisation of 5G spectrum, deploying over 30 pre-5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) networks in the U.S. alone.
CBNL has been developing millimetre wave FWA systems for nearly 20 years. Only millimetre wave allows the large channel sizes which are necessary for the reliable multi-Gbps services that can be deployed as a fibre substitute. Our pioneering point-to-multipoint deployments have been independently proven to deliver total cost of ownership savings of up to 50% over alternative technologies.
CBNL has deployed nearly 200,000 units in 52 countries, helping network operators to build enterprise, residential and smart city networks that delight their end users and generate profit for their owners.
The need to offer new or faster connectivity, together with congestion in lower radio frequencies, means the market for more efficient high frequency technology is larger than ever before. CBNL is the outstanding company operating in this market, both with its existing and forthcoming 5G-based platforms.
Through its R&D centre in Cambridge and centres of excellence throughout the world, CBNL is the partner of choice for deploying the world’s next generation of high-performance enterprise, residential and smart city wireless networks which are profitable and easy to maintain and deploy.

5G FWA for: Residential Broadband
With consumer appetite for fast internet at unprecedented levels, ISPs are looking for more efficient ways to meet demand within an increasingly competitive environment.
Despite fibre’s unlimited capacity, the high cost (both in laying new fibre and leasing) and slow deployment result in the solution being unfeasible for many scenarios. This is especially the case for growing urban and remote locations where the initial customer concentration is often too low to make the business case for fibre.
VectaStar Edge is CBNL’s fixed wireless access residential solution. It extends VectaStar through a software managed local access layer to create a seamless end-to-end home broadband service. By combining a licensed, millimetre wave middle mile with an unlicensed edge, CBNL is able to serve FTTH-class connectivity to individual homes at an unprecedented low build cost.

5G FWA for: Smart Cities
As the growing pace of urbanisation creates the impetus to improve quality of life for city dwellers, smart connectivity solutions are increasingly capturing the attention of municipal authorities and local government.
Smart city living not only demands a higher standard of connectivity, but also a robust underlying network infrastructure in order to support a myriad of city services. By upgrading incumbent infrastructure to more efficient, agile networks, cities can deliver the ubiquitous connectivity needed to underpin a vast ecosystem of connected services and equip each one with QoS and service level guarantees.
By using millimetre wave fixed wireless access to provide ubiquitous city-wide coverage, innovative city authorities make the benefits of ultra-fast broadband, Wi-Fi hot spots, intelligent transport systems, CCTV, and much more besides, part of the daily lives of their citizens.

Mobile Backhaul
Network operators continue to seek high-capacity, scalable backhaul solutions that are capable of supporting increasing data requirements.
However CAPEX and OPEX constraints mean costs must be kept low to build successful business cases, maintaining profitability and offsetting declining voice revenues.
This has led to the rapid growth of advanced wideband point-to-multipoint wireless solutions to be used as a dedicated backhaul network or in combination with fibre and point-to-point.
