ORA students are already impacting their local, national and international communities in a positive way. Read two of our recent stories below.
Student Success Stories
A week before summer came to an end, I submitted a proposal to Unicode Consortium requesting a headscarf emoji. The initial reason for writing this proposal was the mere notion that I wanted an image on the keyboard to represent me, alongside the millions that wear the headscarf as a part of their daily life. But now that this campaign has received global attention from newspapers, radios and news channels (CNN, BBC, AJ+ and the New York Times) I was able to delve deeper into the topic of the importance of representation.
the Wall of Kindness#HijabEmoji This summer while attending ORA, three young Pakistani, Aymun Imran, Musa Ashar and Nosher Ali Khan Zapoh (myself), met in a restaurant in Oxford. Over their lunch, their conversations quickly evolved from small talk to how they could contribute to a better Pakistan. That was when the idea of forming a NGO sprang up. After returning back to Pakistan their idea of an NGO became a reality as they founded PAK Care Foundation. As soon as people got to know about their idea of empowering young people via education, more and more concerned fellows joined them on their mission of creating an educated and evolved Pakistan. One of the ORA Scholars, Nosher Khan, travelled to the remote valley of Hunza amongst the Himalaya and built a Wall of Kindness. It is the first Wall of Kindness in Hunza, and it is also the first of its kind in the
We will hear from Unicode Technical Committee in November, where a vote will be held to decide whether a headscarf emoji is added or not. I have received a lot of support from my friends at ORA. My time at ORA is living proof that you can get close to people in just two weeks. They always want me to keep them updated! ORA has definitely shaped my perception towards different cultures and individuals, which I believe indirectly influenced my efforts for a hijab emoji.
world with a section reserved for books. The central idea behind this Wall of Kindness is to appreciate and promote the idea of sharing in the community of Hunza. Even though Hunza has developed significantly over the past few decades, there are still under-privileged people who often are not comfortable with the idea of asking for help. It is hoped that this Wall of Kindness will aid such people. People who have extra clothes and books can leave them in their designated spots on the wall, while those in need can take them away. No questions will be asked. This Wall of Kindness not only helped a few underprivileged people but actually inspired many other people to build such walls so that everyone, everywhere, has access to clothes and, more importantly, books.

Oxford’s picturesque cousin in the fens, Cambridge is situated in the tranquil east of England and is best known for its world-renowned university - a seat of intellectual innovation and academic excellence since its foundation in 1209. Aside from the perfectly-manicured gardens and historic buildings of its 31 constituent colleges, the city offers students a rich cultural experience that belies its size: the Fitzwilliam is the largest of Cambridge’s museums and holds an impressive variety of artefacts from all over the world, whilst the surrounding ‘Silicon Fen’ is home to some of the brightest minds in engineering, electronics, and tech.

Supervision, safety and security on campusWhilst on-campus, students are overseen by the Programme Director (PD), who implements the day-to-day running of the programme. The PD is assisted by a team of Junior Deans and Counsellors.
The Junior Deans and Counsellors ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme. Students are able to talk informally and frankly to the Counsellors in order to raise concerns, talk about the city and discuss university applications.
Each campus has a few members of residential staff, who live on campus throughout the programme and are able to assist students at any time of the day or night.
Students on the 16-18 programme are permitted to leave campus in the afternoons before dinner, and between dinner and curfew time in groups of three or more. All students must return before the agreed time.
For more information on the accommodation, please see our website at www.oxford-royale.co.uk/clare-cambridge or contact our Head Office on [email protected].
The beautiful Clare College was founded in the year 1326, making it the second oldest college in the University of Cambridge. The college is located on the riverside, in the most beautiful part of Cambridge – The Backs. Nearby, students will find the lovely and picturesque King’s Parade, as well as the bustling centre of this University city.
Clare College boasts beautiful architecture in the quintessential Oxbridge style of white brick, and a lovely classically English landscaped garden. The college features two courts in the Oxbridge style of quadrangles, named Memorial Court and Old Court, and between them students will have a wealth of atmospheric space in which to relax and study.

Frequently AskedQuestions
For more FAQs, please visit www.oxford-royale.co.uk/faqs
The courses look great! How do I book a place?
The easiest way to enrol on our summer school courses is via our website. Simply visit www.oxford-royale.co.uk, add your chosen course, location and session to the Basket, and then click ‘Proceed to checkout’. If you prefer, you can complete the paper form (downloadable from any course webpage) and send it to us by email, post or fax, using the details on the back cover.
What happens after I book?
Our friendly Registrations Team will make all the necessary arrangements for your enrolment. Once we have received your initial details and the deposit payment, you will receive confirmation of your place by email and a login link for the ORA Portal. A short time later, you will receive a confirmation letter in the post. Closer to the summer, we will send a Welcome Pack, containing some additional information that will help you prepare for your ORA course.
What’s the best way to pay for a course?
We offer a number of payment options – simply choose the one that’s most convenient for you. To secure a place on your chosen course, we ask for a deposit of 795 GB Pounds for two weeks of study and 1495 GB Pounds for four weeks of study. If you are enrolling online, this deposit can be paid by Credit or Debit card (we are not able to accept American Express). If you are enrolling via the paper application form, the deposit can be paid by Bank Transfer, Card or Cheque. The remaining balance will be due 60 days before your course start date.
Can I book more than one course?
Certainly! Students are welcome to stay with us for more than two weeks. You can either enrol onto two different two-week courses, or book a four-week stay on the same programme (available on certain courses). If you would like to stay more than four weeks, this would also be possible, although please contact us in advance to discuss your requirements and course interests.
What’s included?
Lots! There is a list on page 4 of this brochure, which details some of the items that our courses include. Please also be sure to consult the relevant course page on our website for full details.
Do the course fees include meals?
Yes. Students on our 16-18 courses receive breakfast and evening meals in college. Students may also purchase their own snacks during their free time.
How many students are there in a class?
This varies from course to course, but on average there are no more than 15 students in morning sessions and no more than 20 students in afternoon sessions. Guest lectures and other talks will have higher numbers.
I’m not sure if my English level is right for the course I want to do – can ORA help?
Of course we can. Our programmes have different English requirements, so please contact our Registrations Team on [email protected] and they will be able to advise you. It would help if you have the results of any internationally recognised English tests (such as IELTS, the Cambridge Exam or the CEFR) available. Please note that we are unable to accommodate complete beginners.
Do students receive a certificate?
Absolutely. Students who complete the course will be presented with an ORA graduation certificate. Students also receive personalised reports from their teachers, detailing their assessed grade for the course, what was covered in class and some suggestions on future reading and work.
Do ORA courses include insurance?
Good question! Yes, all of our courses include travel insurance (featuring private medical cover) as standard. Students are registered with our insurance provider on payment of the deposit. For full information, please visit www.oxford-royale.co.uk/insurance
Can ORA arrange students’ travel between the airport and Cambridge?
We would be happy to. Our team organises taxi transfers for our Cambridge students for an extra charge. For full details on these services, including prices and availability, please visit www.oxford-royale.co.uk/transfers
Can ORA give me more information regarding visa requirements?
Our Registrations team can offer some information and advice; however, it is always best to check your visa requirements directly with UK Visas and Immigration. Please go to www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa for more information. If you do require a visa, Oxford Royale Academy can write a Letter of Invitation to support your application. Please note that we are only able to provide letters for students, and not for accompanying family members or any other individuals.
Is Oxford Royale Academy part of the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge?
It is important for us to be clear that Oxford Royale Academy is not part of the University of Oxford or University of Cambridge. Students who stay in an Oxford or Cambridge college experience what it is like to study in these cities through immersion in a college environment, and our courses are inspired by the academic rigour and reputation of their settings. However, our programmes are independently run and are not endorsed by the University, or by any of the colleges in which the programmes take place.
