The SSMC Wellhead System is
a total system designed to
accommodate a variety of
casing programs and working
pressures, while using a
maximum number of inter-
changeable components.
The SSMC wellhead has many
technical advantages over a
conventional wellhead system
including: reduced height,
enhanced safety, savings in rig
time, through BOP opera-
tions, and a decrease in system
cost. In addition, many com-
ponents of the conventional
wellhead are eliminated by
using a single compact hous-
ing for multiple casing and
tubing hangers.
This modular design, with
all internal components inter-
changeable throughout,
means 30% fewer parts and
reduced inventories.

The SSMC wellhead offers a selection in sealing technology which increases versatility and ensures that the wellheadis adaptable for any production environ-ment.
Seals available for the SSMC sealassembly include LS elastomer seals andthe popular, Cameron-exclusive MetalEnd-Cap (MEC) seal.
An additional feature of the SSMC sys-tem is the snapring lockdown incorporat-ed into all elastomeric seal assemblies andtubing hangers.
The seal assembly is run on a threadedrunning tool that retains the snapringuntil landed. Backing off the running toolreleases the snapring which is naturallybiased to spring into the lock groove inthe housing. An overpull ensures the cor-rect engagement of the seal assembly. Theseals are tested via a test port in thehousing prior to retrieving the running
tool. The top face of the seal assemblyserves as a landing shoulder for the nextstage hanger.
S SealThe S seal is a one-piece elastomer inter-ference-type seal used as either an annu-lus seal or tubing hanger neck seal. Ituses continuous 316 stainless steel gartersprings molded into the two exposed corners of the seal to prevent extrusion.
LS SealThe LS seal is a cost-effective, field-proven, elastomer interference seal usedas an annulus seal. The LS seal is a larger, more robust version of the S seal and cantolerate surface imperfections such asthose caused by casing centralizers andlarger running clearances.

The ability of a wellhead to
withstand pressure is determined
in great part by the integrity of
its sealing system. In addition,
the seals must be designed to
match the service application in
which they are used. That is why
the Cameron SSMC wellhead
system features a choice of
elastomeric seals on seal
assemblies, and metal-to-metal
seals on tubing hanger necks.
Seals available for the SSMC
include metal-to-metal seals in
primary sealing applications, and
either LS elastomer seals or the
Cameron-exclusive Metal End-Cap
(MEC) Seal in the annulus. Metal
seals meet the requirements of
API 6FB fire specifications. All
elastomer seals are available in
premium elastomer materials
developed by Cameron Elastomer
Technology specifically for
oilfield applications.
The MEC seals combine metal
end-caps, premium elastomer
material, and the patented
radial squeeze sealing method to
ensure wellhead dependability,
extended service life and ease of
operation. Hundreds of MEC
seals have been installed in
platform and subsea wellhead
applications.

Metal-End-Cap (MEC) SealMEC seals are radially squeezed, pres-sure-energized elastomeric annulusseals. Metal shells provide a zero gapextrusion barrier that eliminates expos-ing the elastomer material to the corro-sive well bore environment. MEC sealscan tolerate surface imperfections suchas those caused by casing centralizers,MEC seals are available with theCameron-exclusive CAMLAST™ pre-mium elastomer for 350° F service.
T SealThe T seal is a cost-effective, field-proven elastomeric interface seal used as an annulus seal to seal on un-machined casing in emergency situations. It uses square section ringsin the corners to prevent extrusion.
Straight Radial Lip (SRL) SealThe SRL seal is a straight bore sealing, radial interference, pressure-energizedmetal lip seal primarily used on tubinghanger necks.
CF GasketThe CF gasket is used in conjunctionwith the Cameron FastLock andFlangeLock connectors (see page 6) to form a metal-to-metal seal betweenwellhead connections. Its designreduces pressure end-loads and allowslower make-up torque.

FlangeLock™ ConnectorThe FlangeLock connector is designed as a low cost connection for 5000 psi WPapplications. It can be bolted directlyonto FastLock connector hubs. Thisallows for a smaller, more cost-effectiveoverall connection and provides maxi-mum flexibility for drilling andworkover operations.
FastClamp™ ConnectorThe FastClamp connector fits standardclamp hub profiles using conventionalAPI ring gaskets. FastClamp sectionsare pre-installed on the hub via theguide rods to eliminate safety concernsin handling the sections during installa-tion. Low make-up torque increasesease of installation.
Emergency EquipmentThe SSMC wellhead includes a fullrange of casing slip-based emergencyoptions, should the casing “stick” dur-ing installation. With the split compactwellhead, separating the upper andlower sections allows conventional useof slips and facilitates pipe cutting. Inthe non-split wellhead, internal casingcutters are used to prepare the casingfor the seal assembly.

Fast Make-Up ConnectionsThe SSMC wellhead incorporates twoCameron-exclusive fast make-up meth-ods to connect the Christmas tree to thecompact housing, the FastLock andFlangeLock Connectors. On the splitSSMC wellhead system, the FastClampconnector is used between the upperand lower housing.
FastLock™ ConnectorThe FastLock connector is designed as an efficient replacement for flanged connections on surface wellheads. Its low torque allows for fast make-upand saves rig time. Typically, FastLockconnectors would be installed on landand platform BOP stacks taking fulladvantage of the installation time sav-ings offered by this unique design.

Split SSMC Wellhead System(Shown with Dual Tubing Hanger)
The Split SSMC Wellhead System
is a split version of the standard
SSMC Wellhead System. This split ver-
sion uses many of the same components
and offers the same advantages as the
standard SSMC, but offers the following
added features:
• Wellhead housing can be supplied
with all annulus equipment installed
and tested. All annulus connections
are located on the upper section of the
system.
• Emergency casing hanger installation
is performed without internal casing
cutting.
• Offers maximum maintainability, as
annular seals, seal faces and wellhead
housing can be replaced or repaired
without disturbing the casing.
