Fr Lappin + Mr McSorley have decided to walk the
‘Way of St James’ to help Mary’s Meals feed children
just like ‘Grace’.
4
First, a little bit about one of Jesus’s most important followers:
the Apostle St James
5
St James is one of the 12 Apostles
He is the brother of John.
With St Peter, they appear to have a
special place among the other Apostles:
they are present at important events
such as when Jesus was praying in the
Garden of Gethsemane on the night
before His crucifixion.
James’ was martyred (killed for
following Jesus) by King Herod.
ST JAMES
St James is the
Patron Saint of Spain.
The Apostles spread around the
world preaching about Jesus. James
went to Spain.
After his martyrdom in Jerusalem, his
body was returned to Spain in a stone
boat, which legend says was carried by
angels to Finisterre from where the local
queen brought it inland.
HIs tomb was rediscovered in the 9th
century after a vision in which a hermit,
Pelayo, was led to St James’ grave.
Since then it has been an important
centre of pilgrimage.
St James is the Patron
Saint of Spain.
The Way of St James
There are many different routes and many different starting points that make up the Camino.
El Camino de Santiago
The most popular route is known as the ‘Camino Francés’. It begins in France at St Jean Pied de Port. This route was followed in the film starring Martin Sheen called ‘The Way’
