Camp Philosophy Here at North Central we maximize our players’ speed, athleticism and aggressiveness, while developing an attacking mind-set offensively and defensively. .Not only is transition basketball more fun to play, we have found that the style increases the learning curve so that players maximize their potential at a much faster rate.

At our Girls’ Basketball Fast Break Camp we challenge campers to play as up-tempo as possible, learning to attack defenders in a variety of ways, whether it be a quick-release outside shot, attacking move to the rim, or post finishing move in the paint.

Coaching is our passion, and we want to inspire that “love of the game” into all of the campers we coach. We believe that a confident player is a great player, and that basketball should be FUN. Our staff will instruct with a “can do” attitude by always providing positive feedback and encouraging campers to give their best effort at all times.

Camp Director

MICHELLE ROOF

Michelle Roof, the 2015 IBCA Division III Co-Coach of the year, brings coaching and playing experience at all levels of NCAA basketball. This past season she guided the Cardinals to a 22-6 record, its best in 30 years. Her Cardinal squad led the nation in scoring while setting 8 NCAA Division III records, and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1984.

Prior to North Central College, Roof was the head women’s basketball coach at Aurora University from 2005-2010 and is currently atop the all-time wins list in program history.

Roof also held assistant coach and recruiting coordinator positions at Lewis University, Saint Mary’s of MN,

and Grinnell College. She played Division I basketball at Eastern Illinois University and has instructed at numerous camps including: Tennessee Lady Vols, University of Wisconsin, Syracuse, Texas Tech, and Doug Bruno-DePaul.

Individualized skill sessions are conducted by Coach Roof and the camp staff. These workouts include basketball fundamentals and position-specific skills, and are designed to maximize strengths and target areas of improvement. Skils include ball-handling, shooting, post moves, attack moves, finishing moves, rebounding, and passing.

Shooting instruction is conducted by Coach Roof. Emphasis is placed on improving footwork, balance, speed of release, and shooting mechanics. Players have an opportunity to work on the “Shooting Gun” and will be provided verbal analysis of mechanics.

Campers are placed on a competitive team with other players of similar age and ability in order to utilize camp skills in a live-game environment. Teams will practice and compete together through the duration of camp, concluding with a division tournament on the final day.

Each camper receives an individualized skill evaluation to take home which highlights strengths and identifies areas of improvement. Evaluations consist of positive, constructive feedback to enable campers to continue progress after camp.

Coach Roof discusses important aspects and timelines of the recruitment process. Gain insight into traits/skills coaches are looking for at all levels of college basketball and how to ensure maximum exposure opportunities.
