Mr PattersonA party? I dont know anything about it. Tell me.

AmyWell, you know my friend Katie? Its her party and shes invited me. And all my friends will be there, too.

Mr PattersonI see. And what sort of party will it be?

AmyJust a normal teenage party. A bit of music, dancing, food, you know. Itll be fun.

Mr PattersonAnd when is it? What time on Saturday, I mean.

AmyIt starts at ten, and goes on till late.

Mr PattersonHmm, ten sounds a bit late to me.

AmyIt is Saturday night, Dad. There is no school the next day.

Mr PattersonYouve got a point, but if you were out all night, wed worry about you. Therell be lots of other parties I really dont think you should go to this one.

AmyDo you remember that film I went to last month? That one finished at midnight.

Mr PattersonThats true, but I was there to pick you and your friend up in the car.

AmyOK, Ive got an idea. If I went to the party at ten, then you could pick me up at midnight. It would be like when I went to the cinema. And my phone would be on all the time, so you can call me if you need to.

Mr PattersonYouve worked it out already, havent you, young lady?

AmyWell I know its a bit late, but this way I can be at the party, and you wont have to worry.

Mr PattersonHmm, maybe we can meet halfway.

AmyPlease, say yes! Please!

Why (not)?2. Analyse the dialogue. Fill in:- the speakers intentions: What are Amys and Mr. Pattersons intentions?- stage directions: How does Amy and her father say what they say (worriedly, angrily, humorously, ?)3. Read and act out the dialogue again.- Then fold back the dialogue. Only use the prompts (intentions and stage directions). You dont need to use the original wording.4. Collect useful phrases: Look for phrases Amy uses to convince her dad. Look for phrases Mr. Patterson uses to express interest, to express his emotions, to show that he is listening and to explain his concerns. What else could you say? Add more phrases you know.
