of Canada-Israel to sit down together for an interview is like trying to find matching socks in the dark. Eventually, I found myself joining them atop the "W Tower" - one of their latest luxurious developments overlooking Tel Aviv. At 5 in the afternoon

Most people forget their dreams when they wake up. Asaf Touchmair and Barak Rosen of Canada-Israel just go out and

fulfill them, turning visions into soaring skyscrapers or sprawling estates. Here's how this dynamic duo conquered the summit

of Israel's global real estate investment firms.

"We've always been like this, on the go", says Barak, "we take a dream and run with it, watching each other's back while always looking forward". Asaf gets off the phone and joins the conversation. "I guess you could say that our success derives from the fact that we are different from other

real estate development companies". As if reading his partner's mind, Barak adds, "We are actually a unique combination of global entrepreneurs and a real estate investment house, a sort of global real estate fund. We put a lot of effort in being in the right place at the right time, learning to identify potential and how to seize it".

We tried to think of everything, even how yacht owners will be able to dock in the marina next to their vacation residence. This entire project embodies our vision - creating new lifestyle concepts".

Aviv. I make use of this occasion to try to understand what makes Canada-Israel so successful. We discuss their latest project in Russia, a 25,000-unit development in St. Petersburg, as well as the global real estate scene.

Through our discussion, I begin to comprehend the three distinctive types of companies in this business. First, there are the "old school" companies run by veteran contractors. Today they are considered outdated. The second kind is companies run by financial wizards. These companies are mostly successful, but to them a building is like any other commodity and all that the management sees are facts and figures. Canada-Israel is categorized as the third type, the "new-age" real estate companies - those that are lifestyle-oriented, and which create new residential concepts and new ways of living.

"When I look at a piece of land, I don't just see the building that will be constructed on it; I see the total concept - the family that will live there, the children that will play in the park. Instead of bricks and glass and asphalt, I visualize a complete lifestyle".

"I think our outlook is influenced by our experience", says Asaf. "There's nothing like growing up in the business to fully understand it. Looking into a person's eyes, listening to him or her and watching buyers inspecting an asset, is a lot different than sitting behind a desk and doing the math. Today we operate on a global level, but that early experience is what enables us to achieve higher levels of expertise and constantly improve our business results. That is why we are different, and we constantly instill this way of thinking to our management and employees". Barak raises his wineglass in a toast. "Anyone can build a building. We build dreams".

with the partners' special relation-ship with investors. "There are approximately 1,500 individual investors and 100 private companies that have been working with Canada-Israel since it was established", Asaf smiles, "and without their faith we wouldn't be where we are".

Barak Rosen and Asaf Touchmair have known each other since high school. After their compulsory army service in the IDF they debated whether to go into diamonds, insurance or real estate – three areas with growth potential. By chance, Barak's father had a friend who owned a small real estate agency in Ra'anana, and the two started working there. Their combined energy was too much for the small office, as the two young agents closed a record-high amount of deals in the first month only. Consequently, they opened "Penthouse Real Estate" in 1993, which quickly grew to employ 10 full-time brokers.

In 1995 they identified a new market potential, and established the "Company for Galilee Development" which specialized in purchasing agricultural land in northern Israel that was not yet zoned for development. They subsequently parceled out the land to various investors who later collected nice profits from the deals. In 1998, when the Palestinian Intifada brought Israeli economy to a standstill, the pair looked to Toronto as their next big real estate location. There they purchased buildings and sold the apartments after complete renovation. In 2006 they bought a public company and renamed it Pangaea Real Estate, thereby raising considerable funds for additional ventures. Leveraging their gained experience, the partners expanded into Europe and the United States. The rest is history.

The Canada-Israel group consolidates five private companies that specialize in real estate and development, as well as two public companies, Pangaea Real Estate and Pangaea Israel. The name Pangaea comes from Greek and means "Mother of the Lands", referring to a time many million years ago when all of the world's continents were connected.

Since 2006, Pangaea Real Estate consolidates all of the group's activities throughout Europe, and since 2007 most of the group's

activity in Israel is carried out under Pangaea Israel. "We went public when we felt it was the right time to do so", says Barak. "We purchased the two public companies as a platform for further growth. We believe that there are always prospects out there; you just have to know when and how to grasp them".
