Canaryseed prices have declined since harvest, but not as much as many other grains. For most producers, canaryseed returns meet or exceed returns from other cereal crops.
Extremely tight Mexican restrictions continue on prohibited weed seeds, but Canadian exporters are doing business and there have been few rejections in recent times.
State of the Industry and Operations
New Food Use submission to Health Canada in March 2013. More data recently submitted to answer Health Canada questions on heavy metals / mycotoxins.
Good progress on GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) status for food use in the U.S. – Assistance from CAAP funding.
Some development work also underway on gluten-free food products utilizing canaryseed
State of the Industry and Operations
As New Uses Project nears a conclusion, more levy dollars are being devoted to improving yields
We heard from Bill May, Pierre Hucl and Randy Kutcher in the info session – agronomic and breeding work.
