CANE MILL PLANTATION
For the first time ever, and exclusive membership is now offered at Cane Mill
Plantation. Cane Mill is without question one of the finest hunting and recreation
properties in the region. The esteemed Albany Area plantation trace has long
been noted as the wild quail hunting capital of the country. Generations of
affluent sportsmen have retreated here to winter in this pristine southern
landscape, complete with towering pines and majestic live oaks that support the
thriving population of wild quail, trophy whitetail
deer, ducks, dove, and turkeys. Cane Mill
Plantation is located within the epicenter of this
unique ecosystem.
The members of Cane Mill will enjoy the main lodge, a well designed and constructed 8 stall horse barn, kennel facilities and horse paddocks. The kennel is the proud home of field trial grade bird dogs. The
horse barn is the proud home of exceptional horses and mules. All hunting on Cane Mill is conducted in the traditional manner of a mule drawn wagon with
additional hunters on horseback.
With regards to wildlife management, wild bobwhite quail are clearly the focus on Cane Mill.
A strict regiment of fire, feeding, and predator control come together to create one of the
area’s most productive quail properties. This past season posted very respectable numbers,
with an average of 6.5 coveys moved per hour across 6 established quail courses. That being
said, the property’s wildlife is as diverse as the landscape itself with trophy deer and turkey
habitat found in the mature hardwood bottoms along Mud Creek. The upland fields offer
prolific dove while natural wet weather ponds are excellent wood duck roosts. The proximity
of other neighboring plantations sharing the same management ethic contribute to the
abundant wildlife and totals over 35,000 acres of contiguous habitat.
Cane Mill has also been successful in maintaining an impressive timber and agricultural com-
ponent to the property. The property contains approximately 200 acres of irrigated farmland
in addition to approximately 225 acres of dry land agriculture. The area’s fertile soils are ide-
ally suited for row crop production and the plantation maintains a large portion of the prop-
erty in grain crops which benefit the wildlife while helping to offset management expenses.
All of these factors combine to make Cane Mill the best opportunity within the Albany Plan-
tation belt for sporting enthusiasts.
