Live Seminar Continuing Education Credit Information

Falls and subsequent injuries in health care are an ongoing issue and we as clinicians need to know how to intervene to not only treat falls, but also to prevent them before they happen.

Attend this course and get the most up-to-date, clinically-relevant evaluation and treatment techniques for improving balance in geriatric and neurologically impaired individuals. A key focus is on learning to select and use the most appropriate tools for assessing balance/risk of falls and evaluating function. You will examine the relationship between cognition, the sensory system and all the musculo-skeletal aspects that impact on balance and fall risk. This will improve your clinical skills in assessment

of high-risk fall patients. Providing appropriate pre- minimizing the risks) and post-fall interventions is very critical to FALL PREVENTION.

Michel (Shelly) Janet Denes, PT, C/NDT, has worked in various aspects of rehab for more than twenty-five years. In her current role at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, she is involved in the physical rehabilitation of neurologically compromised patients, with special interest in fall prevention, in the home environment, community settings and therapeutic settings. Shelly previously worked with rehab teams in an assisted living/senior living continuum to help formulate fall prevention programming across all other residential settings. Incorporating advanced technologies into practice, including FES cycling, FES neuroprosthetic devices, lower extremity orthotics and exoskeleton robotics, has been of special interest. She draws on a wealth of knowledge from diverse experiences such as management in a comprehensive Rehab / Physical Therapy Program, TBI clinics, and expert witness work. Additionally, she has extensive experience with patients with neuromuscular impairments including hemiplegia, neurodegenerative disorders, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury where fall prevention is key. Her expertise has been sought by colleagues around the country through various presentations and annual meetings. Shelly graduated from the University of Michigan in Physical Therapy and holds certification in Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) in Adult Hemiplegia completed at the Rehab Institute of Chicago. Speaker Disclosures:

Financial: Michel Janet (Shelly) Denes has an employment relationship with the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery. She receives a speaking honorarium from PESI, Inc.

Nonfinancial: Michel Janet (Shelly) Denes has no relevant nonfinancial relationship to disclose.
