This small organic farm grows heirloom vegetables and has recently planted many kinds of fruit trees. Native plant hedgerows and Mediterranean shrubs and trees surround a grove of cottonwoods, a great place for a picnic. Watch birds around a pond and visit sheep in the orchard. Learn about building a straw bale house. Veggies will be for sale, as well as t-shirts silkscreened with original drawings of vegetables and farm animals. New in 2016 : Join us at 12pm for a silk- screening workshop. Bring your own t-shirt or fabric. Chamisa Ridge Nursery is a wholesale nursery featuring plants suited to the arid west and to non-irrigated gardens. Our unique species are not readily available in the nursery trade and not often encountered in the landscape. Chamisa Ridge places and emphasis on western natives, including beneficial bird and insect plants for agricultural lands, public landscapes, and private gardens. These are not ordinary garden plants! Be sure to stop by to purchase a unique native plant and talk to the nursery operators. Established in the Hungry Hollow area in 1984 by owners Jeff and Annie Main, this 20 acre organic farm grows flowers, herbs, fruits and is a source of beauty. Many flower garden plants came from Annie’s grandmother’s garden. Flowering trees and shrubs, native hedgerows and Australian Beefwood create borders, leaving central areas for vegetables, flowers and the stone fruit orchards. Bring your picnic and walk the paths to find the perfect spot for a family lunch. Sale items include plants, fresh flower bouquets, jams, jellies and dried fruit. Park along the road. This family farm in the Capay Valley grows mostly walnuts and almonds. Started from scratch about 20 years ago, this farm is powered by solar and wind energy. Tucked in the middle of the orchards are the main farmhouse and gardens. See raised vegetable and garden beds, as well as annual and perennial flowers and shrubs. Mixed in with the flowers and trees are ponds, creeks, fountains, and waterfalls. Bring your picnic! The gardens at Capay Oaks Farm feature drought tolerant plantings. Entering alongside the young olive orchard, please park behind it, and then walk down the drive, through the oaks and into the garden. The garden is filled with unusual plants collected from many corners of the world. It also serves as a demonstration garden and propagation source for our nursery, Chamisa Ridge Nursery.
