Its a small group but very dedicated. But, Im very concerned that at some point they will tire of the work load. I hope our members will come and see the good work we are doing and will want to help the lodge by volunteering. By becoming a cooks helper, a bartender or joining an event committee you receive far more than money (there is none) – you have the friendship of fellow Elks and some fun! Believe me - no experience neces- sary”! Im sad to say that there will not be an Elks camp out this year. We missed the deadline to reserve the camp grounds. I know this disappoints many but some- times things just happen. So I look forward to next years camp out. We will need a chairman to insure that the reservations are made early so all can enjoy the outdoors. If you are interested contact me or any of the officers. This month theme is PARTICIPATION’! WE GIVE AWAY $30 to 40 THOUSAND A YEAR TO OUR COMMUNITY. Because of the participation of our members we have been able to help the community for years. Without our members coming to functions and participat- ing we are endanger of closing our doors. This means that bingo may close. And that means we will no longer be in a position to support the local charities like the boys scouts, girls software, Little league, the July 4th fireworks, 4H and so many others. I know that each of us are busy and enjoying our lives out- side of being an Elk. But without participation we will soon have to make some major changes. Please come to our dinners and have a drink – bring your friends – they are welcome! I want to thank the PERs for their help and their participation this month. I m happy to say I see more and more of them – and I appreciate their participation! On another happy note I welcome PER Karen Wells as our newest Trustee! Go get them Karen! Rod T. Riggins Sr. Exalted Ruler July 2017 Good bye get together for Bob and Joann Doud who are moving to Yuma, Arizona. Enjoy all that hot weather. We will miss you!

Message from the Exalted Ruler

First let me thank our volunteers! It’s a small group but very dedicated. But, I’m very concerned that at some point they will tire of the work load. I hope our members will come and see the good work we are doing and will want to help the lodge by volunteering. By becoming a cook’s helper, a bartender or joining an event committee you receive far more than money (there is none) – you have the friendship of fellow Elks and some fun! Believe me - “no experience neces-sary”! I’m sad to say that there will not be an Elks camp out this year. We missed the deadline to reserve the camp grounds. I know this disappoints many but some-times things just happen. So I look forward to next years camp out. We will need a chairman to insure that the reservations are made early so all can enjoy the outdoors. If you are interested contact me or any of the officers. This month theme is ‘PARTICIPATION’! WE GIVE AWAY $30 to 40 THOUSAND A YEAR TO OUR COMMUNITY. Because of the participation of our members we have been able to help the community for years. Without our members coming to functions and participat-ing we are endanger of closing our doors. This means that bingo may close. And that means we will no longer be in a position to support the local charities – like the boy’s scouts, girls software, Little league, the July 4th fireworks, 4H and so many others. I know that each of us are busy and enjoying our lives out-side of being an Elk. But without participation we will soon have to make some major changes. Woodland Elks Father's Day Brunch

The Father's Day Brunch was Sunday June 18 th 2017. It was a very hot day and there was lots of good food, mimosas and bloody marys. I wish more Elks Father's would have joined us. I want to

thank my crew for the fabulous job they did. JoAnn Fritz, Ken and Barbara Breckinridge, Kay Gas-son, Patty Workman, Sherry Mancilla, Mary Ann Tuccori and Debbie Kemp. Also, Karen Wells for making her famous country gravy, Hope Tapia for checking people in, Joyce Hall and Pam Baccei for making waffles, and last but no least our own ER Rod Riggins for bartending. It could not have

happened without all your help.

Thanks again Joyce Tauzer Treasurer

P.S. Thank you Lorraine and James for the setup.

A special thanks to Joyce Tauzer for organizing the Father’s Day Bruch

Dave Carter Elk of the Month May 2017 Thank you for redoing the grills on the BBQ, cooking for Bingo, and helping repair the

light for the outside flag!

What do the yearly dues really pay for:

Your dues this year were $130.50. Your Elk’s lodge 1299 receives $108.00 of that amount – the rest is divided up by the state and Grand Lodge. We have approximately 400 members. Of the 400 members we have 72 life time members. The life time members pay $22.50 to cover the state and Grand Lodge payments and do NOT pay the $108.00. That leaves 328 members that pay $108 dollars that support the lodge or $35,424.00 in total dues collected (that assumes everyone continues their membership). Insurance cost are $11,279.00. Property Taxes are $9500.00 $35,424.00 (dues) - $20,779.00 (taxes and ins) = $14,645.00 Leaving $14,645.00 to keep the lodge running! At first glance it looks like a lot – doesn’t it? That does NOT include payroll for ELKS staff, including the janitor, the office staff, the catering manager. Then there is the problem of the maintenance of a 75 year old building. For example the building will need two air conditioners this year - approximately $18,000.00 is the cost of replacement. So you see the $14,645.00 only covers approximately 1/3 of the cost of keeping our doors open!
