This month has been a particularly exciting time for me and the students involved in the BSU ministry. God has consistently

challenged us with His word found in 2 Corinthians 5. Here, we are told that upon being made new in Christ we become ambas-

sadors of His Kingdom! What an amazing calling. We’ve seen God at work in many ways this month, and look forward to see-

ing what He does through us as we seek to faithfully live out our calling as ambassadors of the Gospel.

I’m excited to report that over Fall Break we were able to take a team of 13 students to Smyrna, Tennessee to serve at a low-

income housing ministry. Let’s just say that the students had a phenomenal time and have already wanted to know when we will

be going back. Southeast Missouri was well represented, as we were consistently told that we were one of the hardest working

groups they have ever had! For some students this was their first intentional mission trip. Overall, it was a great trip as we

sought to glorify God by meeting the needs of the people in that community.

As we head into the Thanksgiving season I look forward to the annual BSU dinner. On November 25 th students from all walks

of life will gather together for a meal. It is my prayer that we will be able to intentionally serve students who would never come

to a worship service or Bible study. Will you pray that God will work mightily through this event?

As we enter into our 4th month of ministry at Southeast I want to thank you all for the amazing welcome that you’ve given me.

God has done some amazing things already, and I look forward to seeing what He will accomplish as we seek to boldly proclaim

the Gospel to a group that desperately needs Him! As always, if there is any way that I may serve you please let me know.

Because of Jesus,

Andrew Abbott

DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS

The air is finally crisp and the trees are amazingly colorful; fall has definitely arrived! We have tried to capture the season with our current website design. I would like to invite you to visit our website (www.capebaptist.net) and become familiar with the information communicated there. This newsletter, and past newsletters, can be found un-der the “Info Center”. It is our hope that this will make the newsletter more available to those that wish to read it as well as eventually reducing the number of newsletter we need to physically print and mail, allowing us to use those savings in other areas of ministry. There is also a “Member Area” where you can sign up as a “member” of our as-sociation’s online community. Doing so will give you access to prayer requests, forums, and groups. You will be able to submit and view prayer requests; discuss items on the forums that are related to the ministries of the asso-ciation; and be connected with others in groups. The groups will be formed according to committees and estab-lished work groups for ministries. Each group has their own calendar to schedule meetings and events; adding something to a group calendar will automatically send an email to everyone in the group to make them aware of the new entry. It also allows us to send a group text message on a specific date and time to everyone in a group that has provided their cell number. It is our hope that this will improve communications between committee members. Everything has not been entered in to the various areas yet so be sure to check back often to see what is new! I will be a bit difficult to get in touch with the first half of November as I will be traveling with a large group to El Sal-vador. During the trip we will be doing some construction on a new church and training pastors in discipleship and stewardship. Please pray for the group going and those that we will have the opportunity to minister among. We have finished the first Bible Training Center for Pastors/Leaders module on Bible Study Methods & Rules of Interpretation! There were 8 people that successfully completed the course in addition to the four instructors. The next module, Overview of the Old Testament, will begin in January at the associational office. We will also offer Bible Study Methods & Rules of Interpretation again in January/February, hosted by Trinity Baptist Church in St. Mary. It is our hope that this will make the training more accessible to those churches in the northern part of our association. More details about this ministry will be available on the website under “Ministries”. Finally, I have been looking into training available for church planters. This search has led me back to the training we used in the former Soviet Union. It is written in a way that makes it easily transferable and covers the basics that need to be addressed. I have posted a link on our website under “Ministries: Church Planting Center” called Alliance for Saturation Church Planting for you to download and review. I am open to feedback regarding this as well as leading a group of current or prospective church planters beginning in January. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you may have. Blessings, John
